1. Death is a lesson, and Azrael teaches it
And creation is an explanation, and the One with the cleft narrates it

2. Were it not for death, the created would not know their Creator
What an excellent teacher he is, though we oppose him!

3. And the expanse of life is predestined breaths
As though it is a debt we pay off

4. The universe is a journey, and we are its letters, so when
Its pages are recited, time folds it

5. What are death pangs but a stage preceding
The stage of life, though you know not what is in it

6. This earth is but some of those who were buried
Transformed into dust from it worn out

7. Whoever sees the corpses of those past
Says: it takes what it gives him

8. The old perishes and another replaces it
Until an appointed term we do not name

9. Such is the case in this life, so have you
Understood what you will meet in your world?

10. God is Greatest! Of us remains nothing but a nostril
In love with life as though death forgot it

11. Is it not vain speech for a lad to say
To others, from greed for God to spare him?

12. Were it not for equal stakes in the matter of death
The loss of whom we console would be cheapened

13. The hand of death wreaked havoc on the delicate kind
As the hand of a thief does, in resemblance to its corruption

14. It picks from us whenever some of our gems
That the gardens of the drinkers cannot equal

15. As with her we lost the treasure of chastity
After her father, the mourned scholar

16. She met her father and was undismayed by the calamity
Rather, she met delight in the reunion

17. Good tidings for her fortune in the paternal incident
Though our worries about it were magnified

18. If you eulogize her among the people, you
Will weep for chastity in the world and eulogize it

19. She was wise in character and name
Our Khujjiya, the home of knowledge that cultivated her

20. The chaste granddaughter of the Chosen One
The first to announce his death, the Minister of War

21. Pure of lineage, a paradise of virtues
A shining pinnacle of purity in the highest sphere

22. Pure of soul, gentle of nature
A chain of glory raised on its pillars

23. Unique of her time in piety, and she graciously
Perfects her servitude to her Lord

24. It is as though she - and the state of affairs mentions her
With virtue - were our blossoms without compare

25. She left no orphaned children to mourn her
Except a little boy she used to nurture

26. She cared for him like a mother, and God
Rewarded her for him as she deserved

27. She left him for her husband, a memento consoling him
And she deemed him a keepsake to comfort him

28. I yearn for her, though she enjoys bliss
My heart is too narrow to mourn her

29. We had barely heard the news
When tears streamed down our cheeks

30. Her family shared in the agonizing calamity
As did the eminent people of the land, mourning her

31. They all circled around her bier
Like the full moon circling in its clouds

32. And the people stretched out in lines escorting her
As the mention of God raised voices praying for her

33. They headed to the Alyun Mosque
Where she was prayed over in her loftiness

34. Then they resumed walking after the prayer
To where she was buried with her kin

35. She went to Jabal Al Jilaz, followed
By a large throng of notables accompanying her

36. For she had become a neighbor therein to her father
Side by side, adjoining him

37. So the chronicler said, grieved:
The burial of your father was followed today by hers
