No door in it opened or lit

6. Ask me, o expert, about how Tunis
Became so dormant and what it portends

7. I am one of its children seeking rights
I am among those who sought rights and declared

8. Five years passed in its enlightenment
In vain, they are fickle and ever-changing

9. Finally they said a committee was formed
To grant rights and serve interests

10. Yet around it loomed threatening warships
With laws made as colonists saw fit

11. Bias reached its peak, and it blatantly showed
Without caring what it concealed inside

12. They considered swallowing the people easy
Until the painful, disgraceful day arrived

13. What was its crime, being forbearing and calm
Except for being Tunisian and faithful?

14. Concessions reached their limit within its patience
How strange, for those who do not yield

15. Exhaustion stirred in it determination
That will not bend; thanks to them for their favor

16. Justice is its armor and its sole strength
Not to be slighted and never weakened
