1. I weaved poetry about you on parchment
As Al-Hariri wove his grand compositions

2. You were like a jewel gifted to the sea
And my guide to the bright moon's illumination

3. So do not blame the youths like me
If they cry not for wine but for your love

4. To you I answer in poetry with poetry
Though it be little of a greater treasury

5. That you may keep it as a fish preserved by me
And of wonders, immortalized in poetry
