1. Neither despair brings glory, nor hopes are beneficial,
The most wicked is to live with both, blameworthy.

2. O pearl who sank into the deep sea of life,
Shall I shake off today from it an impoverished palm?

3. Why am I ill-fated in love, have mercy,
Other than ribs and a heart that is not ill-fated.

4. It is as if I am blind, with no guide for me
Except his stick, and hearing not infallible.

5. My soul refuses you, except obedient,
While you refuse except injustice and suppression.

6. I love you and you love me, so why do you
Shun me, until injustice provokes my poem?

7. If I was violent, time is violent,
No gentleness in it, nor does it listen to the oppressed.

8. Time will come upon my love and your beauty,
And does time spare anyone other than the broken?

9. Be however you wish, bored or loving brother,
I desperately need you like water to the thirsty.

10. Return to me, and life’s glamour returns,
The sun rises in the grooves of my visage.

11. You are the remedy for an illness that afflicted me,
So heal it by coming closer, unplanned.

12. That is better than a night I spent
Sipping slowly in the garden of hellfire.
