Neither the next life is safe nor is sleep a refuge

4. If there is no escape from fate
Then it is relief and salvation for the soul

5. For dreams, if they have knocked
On a bitter soul, tears, and agony

6. How often has the mind awake
Carried from them mountains like Al Safa

7. How often did we complain after them
Of the grin of the wound that was visible

8. It shared our life in the past
So it is part of what time has folded from us

9. I fear it and fate casts me
And I avert my gaze though my heart sees

10. And for what it tortured or salted
The chest burned, my share and concealment

11. Whenever we said we forgot
It ignited from the heart the fires of sorrow

12. Fate created from it a world
That defeats the soul with the power of passion

13. O daughters of sleep, what makes me graze
In your fence, the passage of worries

14. Daughters of sleep have power in the next life
And daughters of time have power with harm

15. Where, O our guide, where are you taking us
Most exhausted by the length of the journey
