1. O mother of Amr, do not weep helplessly
For your brother as the mourner proclaims him
١. يا أُمُّ عَمروٍ أَلا تَبكينَ مُعوِلَةً
عَلى أَخيكِ وَقَد أَعلى بِهِ الناعي
2. So weep ceaselessly, lamenting bitterly
For your exalted, noble brother
٢. فَاِبكي وَلا تَسأَمي نَوحاً مُسَلِّبَةً
عَلى أَخيكِ رَفيعِ الهَمِّ وَالباعِ
3. You have been bereaved of Maymun, whose leadership
Was most eminent, a lion in times of peril
٣. فَقَد فُجِعتِ بِمَيمونٍ نَقيبَتُهُ
جَمِّ المَخارِجِ ضَرّارٍ وَنَفّاعِ
4. For who do we have if we lose him and he leaves us
With no lord behind the people as defender
٤. فَمَن لَنا إِن رُزِئناهُ وَفارَقَنا
بِسَيِّدٍ مِن وَراءِ القَومِ دَفّاعِ
5. He used to summon his tribe as their lord
May he not be far, excellent was that summoner
٥. قَد كانَ سَيِّدَنا الداعي عَشيرَتَهُ
لا تَبعَدَنَّ فَنِعمَ السَيِّدُ الداعي
