2. But he's the stalwart heart who grasps his sword
And mounts the saddle though calamity poured,

3. The stalwart mounts the charger not to cry
Or wail aloud though pierced and wounded lie,

4. Who rides where war's fierce flames around him sweep
Though throbbing wounds forbid him rest or sleep.
