1. O You to whom all complain, O Merciful to aggrieved souls,
Hasten to send down rain and relief upon us,

2. Quench the land and water the thirsty earth,
With pouring beneficial rain spread across horizons,

3. And clothe it in shimmering robes of light,
Verdant, embellished with its radiant joy,

4. So its blooming face may be seen in delight instead of barrenness,
And goodness from the clouds may be seen,

5. As if it were the sea with surging waves,
So it may revive the land by drowning drought in its abundance,

6. All came to Your door of grace, beseeching it,
With no crookedness in Your exalted door,

7. Their hearts humble in lowliness, dependent on God,
Needy despite their provisions, and imploring,

8. I prayed with tears streaming down my cheeks,
And sides heaving with summer’s scorching heat,

9. The soul in anguish, the body in toil,
The heart in distress, the chest constricted,

10. To You stretch out the palms of people beseeching,
And those suffering thirst beseeching from Your grace an outpouring,

11. They headed to You in grief with heavy hearts,
Weeping blood, and tongues fluent in supplication,

12. Those unable to earn their basic living,
With no means to strive or make an effort,

13. Widows and children with no recourse,
And the frail, from harm and distress,

14. And every disadvantaged woman unaware of her needs,
Lost in the wilderness, in ignorance wandering,

15. So do not disappoint those who sincerely came,
To the gates of Your grace, O You in whom we trust,

16. You are the refuge when severity overwhelms,
And its night before the dawn of relief emerges,

17. You are the rescuer of one engulfed by the flames beseeching You,
When rain is late or the night of calamities descends,

18. You are the hope for relieving misery when it comes,
You are the protection against any sudden calamity,

19. Who came to Your exalted gate in futility,
One day with sincere hopes and did not succeed?

20. Who whispered to You to relieve his plight,
Spent the night in sorrow and was not saved from it?

21. Who but You deserves to respond when one calls out,
With a heart laden with worries and grief?

22. My Lord, if our sins have multiplied,
There is no exaggeration in Your vast pardon,

23. If anyone exceeded the limits in the world’s injustice,
Transgressed and disobeyed but did not waver,

24. Do not make all people suffer for it,
Let the innocent be struck and the guilty escape!

25. O You whose treasuries of grace are never depleted,
Save us from torment which we have not defied,

26. Your mercy encompassed all the disobedient in the world,
Whether unbelievers defying You or doubting Your religion,

27. They beseeched You by the Chosen One from Mudar,
Muhammad the noblest of messengers,

28. By what Job invoked You when he suffered,
To relieve his plight when he was rescued,

29. By Moses’ call when he was saved,
And by the Friend when flame turned cool and peaceful,

30. By Isaac the Sacrifice and his supplication,
And Noah’s lamentation as all aboard was saved,

31. By Jacob’s plea in anguish for his son Joseph,
When he was abandoned in the well and imprisoned,

32. By Adam whose sin You forgave,
And for him and Eve repentance You accepted

33. Send down rain from You in proper measure,
Blessed, beneficial, without any trouble,

34. So that the land may appear from the clouds,
Verdant, blooming with flowers in meadows,

35. For You are the Most Generous when implored,
And the Most Capable when entrusted and hoped for,

36. Bless, my Lord, the Intercessor when terrors close in,
On the Day of Reckoning and souls are anguished,

37. And his family, companions and wives, whenever
The clouds pour forth rain benefiting the land,

38. And forgive this poem’s composer and its reciters,
And conclude with goodness, O You Most High!
