1. O noble king who fought bravely
Among people with courage and valor

2. And learned every strange and wondrous lore
And reached the highest of all stations

3. Who brought the lion of the West from its lair
And with it erased the foes like writing wiped away

4. You fought them with swords they themselves bore
Though they fought and harbored enmity

5. And ruled what once your enemy ruled
For it is rightfully yours, so excellently restored

6. Though the king shunned you for a time
Sulking for years, yet cleaved to you in ardour

7. Reunion is best when one you love
After aloofness joins you and draws near

8. Like vinegar long parted from its vat
Yearning they join again in great fervor

9. The foes ruled not your kingdom
Nay, no authority was theirs

10. But rather they guarded it for you
Holding in trust the stewardship

11. Until you claimed your due right
And the rule was ceded, no choice but to obey

12. You now command and forbid as before
As your father did, and even more

13. You spread your clemency through the lands
And they curry your favor though steeped in crime

14. You forgave your enemies and killed them
With regret for what had come to pass

15. And delegations came to you from all the lands
Each to congratulate the next

16. Your radiant brow we witnessed shine
And they fell in love with your gentle grace

17. This, when I stayed far from your gates
Fearing that each moment may be my last

18. If I rise up lofty, you lay me low
My fortunes marred by failings vast

19. Yet still I seek profit in the market of nobles
Though my wares be but poor poetry

20. Make my soul the profit of my trade
And honor bound to blissful destiny

Endures, knowing neither end nor confine

22. Never shall your kingdom over men fade
Watched by the Protector with favor divine

23. In this we trust, for the dawn of your reign
Foretold it, in signs there was no mistaking

24. When fortune crowned you king, and all lands bent
To your command, obedience partaking

25. The tongues of the exalted chronicled and said
"A rule eternal, till the trumpet's blaring"
