1. Do you know the house at the foot of Sharbbah,
Of the hills of Shihir and Dhat al-Unthubah,
١. هَل تَعرِفُ الدارَ بِسَفحِ الشَربَبَه
مِن قُلَلِ الشِحرِ فَذاتِ العُنظُبَه
2. To which have been brought down by Fate grievous calamities,
So that every ravening cur trails there his skirt?
٢. جَرَّت عَلَيها أَن خَوَت مِن أَهلِها
أَذيالَها كُلُّ عَصوفٍ حَصِبَه
3. By morning thronged with cavalry or infantry,
All of them with coats of mail glittering bright,
٣. يَمَّمنَ أَعداداً بِلُبنى أَو أَجا
مُضَفدَعاتٌ كُلُّها مُطَحلَبَه
4. Carrying alight three mornings after morning
The zebras' withers and their tails at night.
٤. أَروى الأَناويضَ وَأَروى مِذنَبَه
