بكتنا أرضنا لما ظعنا

1. Our land wept when we were estranged
And our greeting was carried by the messenger clouds

١. بَكَتنا أَرضُنا لَمّا ظَعَنّا
وَحَيَّتنا سُفَيرَةُ وَالغَيامُ

2. The abode of the living when they all passed away
Today there is no one left in it to sleep

٢. مَحَلُّ الحَيِّ إِذ أَمسَوا جَميعاً
فَأَمسى اليَومَ لَيسَ بِهِ أَنامُ

3. We refused that an echo would resound in it
After the sacred months had elapsed

٣. أَنِفنا أَن تَحُلَّ بِهِ صُداءٌ
وَنَهدٌ بَعدَما اِنسَلَخَ الحَرامُ

4. If the living ones of Banu Jari
And Taiym Al-Lat had sensed, the white camels would have been saddled

٤. وَلَو أَدرَكنَ حَيَّ بَني جَرِيٍّ
وَتَيمَ اللاتِ نُفِّرَتِ البِهامُ

5. With every heap of ashes and every deep sigh
The twilight of the fierce fighter disappears

٥. بِكُلِّ طِمِرَّةٍ وَأَقَبَّ نَهدٍ
يَفُلُّ غُروبَ قارِحِهِ اللِجامُ

6. And every cultured, gentle and hot-tempered person
His arrows are scattered over his tent

٦. وَكُلِّ مُثَقَّفٍ لَدنٍ وَعَضبٍ
تُذَرُّ عَلى مَضارِبِهِ السِمامُ

7. Breaking off from it the branches of Tarfa
Next to the rest stop, the soft sands piled up

٧. يُكَسِّرُ ذابِلَ الطَرفاءِ عَنها
بِجَنبِ سُوَيقَةَ النَعَمُ الرُكامُ
