1. I hobbled my she-camel at the grave of Al-Mulawwah
In Dhi Al-Ramth, when his kinfolk had forsaken him
١. عَقَرتُ عَلى قَبرِ المُلَوِّحِ ناقَتي
بِذي الرَمثِ لَمّا أَن جَفاهُ أَقارِبُه
2. And I said to her: "Be crippled, for I
Tomorrow will go on foot, when yesterday I was its rider."
٢. فَقُلتُ لَها كوني عَقيراً فَإِنَّني
غَداةَ غَدٍ ماشٍ وَبِالأَمسِ راكِبُه
3. O son of the quarrelsome man, may Allah not make you distant
For all men are destined to drink the cup of death.
٣. فَلا يُبعِدَنكَ اللَهُ يا اِبنَ مُزاحِمٍ
فَكُلُّ اِمرِئٍ لِلمَوتِ لا بُدَّ شارِبُه
4. You were indeed generous with stallions, and a sword whose blows
Could not be parried.
٤. فَقَد كُنتَ ظَلّاعَ النِجادِ وَمُعطِيَ ال
جِيادِ وَسَيفاً لا تُثَلُّ مَضارِبُه
