1. I wept for the ruins when I saw them,
And praised the Merciful when He saw me.

2. I shed tears when I saw it,
And it called to me in the loudest voice.

3. I said, where are those I knew,
Around you in the fertility and prime of time?

4. It said, they left and entrusted me with their lands,
For who remains with the transient?

5. And I weep today in fear of tomorrow -
Parting from you, while the living remain joined.

6. Arguing and straying and weeping and darkness,
And plain and valley up to Hamlan.
