1. I swore to her by al-Mash'arayn and Zamzam,
And He who presides over the Throne, watching over the swearers.

2. If the coolness of water running to me, ardently,
as a lover, were truly a lover, she would be my beloved!

3. And though I go to her, with lingering in my soul,
putting off all others, or wedding anew,

4. It is only that when I see her suddenly,
I am struck dumb, unable to respond.
