1. The rain watered the homes, pouring down
Covering their ground with bountiful goodness

2. Songs of beautiful maidens and pasture for gazelles
Composing poetry for their outstanding horses

3. Strolling between embroidered silk
Outshining the bright and the perfumed

4. The scent wafts amongst the plush furnishings
Sweet aromas, musk and perfume

5. Greetings to the neighboring tribe we visited
When the living bid farewell and left

6. Their eyes shot arrows
Making their eyelids lethal weapons

7. If they bid us adieu, they bid us farewell
With lingering passion and newborn yearning

8. My brother, are you surprised by my enduring ardor?
You never tasted the flavor of love, my brother

9. If my passion has tried me with its inner torments
Woe to the ardent lover when he meets the beauty

10. I swear by my soul amongst the people of those songs
Was a beloved and precious sweetheart

11. Perhaps before yesterday
I gave advice and visited the loyal friend

12. We spent the night conversing, enraptured with affection
Lighthearted chatter and coy repartee

13. Healing with the cold touch of cheeks
When the cups of fever stung bitterly

14. By God, what great company we kept
Morning and night, compelled by passion’s decree

15. We were entertained and traveled lighter than air
Cheerful, shaded, living the good life

16. Joyous songs the whole night through
Accompanying the Babylonian tambourine

17. By my life, ours was a blissful existence
Though we were misguided and reckless

18. I saddled my steed until we met
Muhammad the pure and righteous

19. He brought grace and generosity
Greetings, gifts and hospitality

20. I met the delegation at his abode
Dismounting, staves hitting the ground

21. Muhammad whose nature leads people
In word, deed, beauty and rectitude

22. Swaying in delight to greet the questioners
Like the shining sword polisher

23. And that noble man of stellar qualities
Abu Umar and the beautiful and vivacious one

24. Once poor, when Muhammad honored me
I became wealthy

25. As if I see gifts from his hands
When I look upon what’s in my own

26. You’d see within the happiness of his palm, pearls
Spreading moisture and adorning the gift

27. Only the valiant suits praise
The wise, forbearing and generous

28. The example of Muhammad who refuses
Moral failings, foolhardy or covert acts

29. Noble by nature, wise in mind
Sound in judgment, strong in resolve

30. Forbearing, prudent and refined
Upright in heart and pure in faith

31. Granted by God every sublime trait
Courage, experience and protective zeal

32. If the trials of fate’s caprice
Try to debase the steadfast and dignified

33. Patient through the tribulations of nights
Shunning disgrace and denyingtemptations

34. His outstanding traits make kings jealous
Hailing from Al Azd where he gained eminence

35. The people of Yemen are the people of glory
Among them is the leader of all

36. Among them we count the trustworthy savior
Among them is Muhammad the elite

37. Aus and Khazraj were the best game
The most honorable and noble tribe

38. They are the most honorable people in birth and old age
And those who were children among them

39. They spread the faith east and west
Won victory for the Prophet with swords

40. Mounting bareback steeds
Shaking the gazelle and muscular horses

41. O tribe of Umar you have reached in glory
An eminent station and lofty abode

42. How many ambitious rivals hope for your prominence
But are kept far away in mean obscurity

43. Muhammad, your glory makes enemies’ hearts burn
With overwhelming rancor and spite

44. When I saw the outstanding qualities
Of my father Abu Umar, I persevered

45. Muhammad built and solidified your eminence
Happy times in times of bliss

46. May your life be long if we find
The life of nobility endure while you live

47. While you remain in the shade of an eminent king
Subduing foes and gladdening allies

48. And filling loved ones’ breasts with joy
While your enemies waste away in burning envy

49. So pay the bridal price to me
