1. O home of our neighbor and lively quarter, I bid you farewell,
As your songs have changed in attire and spent the night awake.

2. Where are those with whom we were neighbors,
Before the fever separated us with farewells and scattering?

3. Save that passion from what enflames it,
Is the scent of breeze and chirping of birds.

4. Or has it not been kindled by lingering fires,
With damp kindling that sparked not with flint?

5. O beautiful days of ours, and home once gathered
The sincere with loosened collar and jest.

6. And the quarter for the lively in its meadows has paths
And pasture between hills and valleys.

7. The full moons are intimate and the land is verdant,
The sun rises from the tail of the fish.

8. Pleasant company amid the vegetation lying down
Sedating gazes like scattered pearls.

9. From every branch its pendant fruit is bent
With necklace and earring between neck and breast.

10. Passion adorns its rosy cheeks and gazes from its eyes
At it with a look of delight and affection.

11. It whispers softer than the neck of a lamb in
Two braids of pearls in chokers of rubies.

12. And the youth amid the thickets of youth has paths
To battlefields of beauties never spurned.

13. So he restores to owners of cheek
The ignorance of youth and zeal for every tyrant.

14. He takes pride in every art of his boyhood
To beauty with an unsevered rope.

15. Relaxed are the virgins, playground and theater,
Among the virgins and adorers of songs.

16. The youth sported as youth does, while the white and rosy cheeks
Do not deny play and banter.

17. Until when old age kneels to bid him farewell,
He detests in songs after lamenting.

18. The elder hides the shame of his white hair,
Fearing poverty, and avoids scarce provisions.

19. He woos rhymes in his poems with praise
Foolishly babbling in taverns.

20. Until he accompanies Abu Abdullah and has attained
All we hoped from Him for reward.

21. Muhammad al-Arihi ibn al-Mu'ammar who
God granted excellence of glory and fame.

22. Delegations in rows around his porch
Like pilgrims standing at appointed times.

23. With the most eloquent of the clan of blessed Umar,
Of glorious descent from Isly branch.

24. Refined in opinion, convincing in argument
Silent in debate protecting the vulnerable.

25. Renowned whom titles increased not in renown,
For he surpassed all the titled in merit.

26. Clinging to the strong tie of a noble lineage
To the Al Aziz from Qahtan severed.

27. His father left him the house of Abu Umar
That brings increase to Sabian arrowsmiths.

28. A house whose protection amongst Kuma's of Azd from Yemen
Against each audacious descending with jinn.

29. And every dirty-clothed Hamdan charging with courage
Whose women are most chaste and veiled.

30. They backed him so enemies dread their might
In morning raid or by night.

31. They settled Abu Abdullah within its
Unhewn peak built of stone.

32. Abu Abdullah led kings though his sons
Got no advancement or confirmation.

33. For they could not attain the merit he attained
And were not granted of merit and nobility what he was granted.

34. If bands deviated from the path of glory,
His band was resolute, undivided.

35. How far from praise is one whose possessions are castles
Among fortresses and caverns of coffins!

36. But praise is truly due to Abu Abdullah, a youth
Who benefits you with plenty, not stingy.

37. So God increased him with guidance
To a path safe from envious blindness.

38. And vengeance against a rebel benefited by him
And vengeance against a foe repressed by him.

39. And the quarter of Abu Abdullah remains a refuge
For the fearful and shelter of all outcasts.
