1. He passed by the ruins of encampments
Whose traces time has effaced

2. From south to north
Like a Yemeni cloak or applied kohl

3. Weep for him with copious tears
Over this desolate abode

4. After its amiable dweller
Who lies in the bosom of wild beasts

5. Among the sand dunes and ruins
In every enclosure

6. Is a delicate gazelle
Adorned and embellished

7. Gazing with a languid eye
In which kohl and surma mingle

8. My heart pines with restrained passion
I waste away without consolation

9. Love kindles my innermost feelings
Powerful wine makes me delirious

10. A gazelle sings, separated from its herd
Dawn steals through its opening

11. A full moon rises on the horizon
A branch emerges in its leaves

12. Bending gently, perfectly proportioned
Charming companions, delightful equals

13. Graceful, radiant maidens
Slender waists between jewels and necklaces

14. Long are their plaits
Smooth their cheeks

15. Lovely their breasts
Slender their statures

16. White and dark-skinned
Though the sun has tanned their cheeks

17. And disheveled their curly hair
They melt into wine and honey

18. I said to the critics
Is not love and wine enough for me

19. After drinking from the stream?
Among wine-skins and revelry

20. And drinking golden grape unripe
That shows you pearls in a cup

21. Causing tipsiness in drinking
Dazzling with its brilliance

22. Leaving its vessel
Showing you through its clarity

23. What lies beyond
Like tears in the blue of kohl

24. Revelry is my greatest joy
When the rhythm of melody rises

25. A voice laments on the flute
And the lute thrills wildly

26. To the slow beat during light rain
It blooms with all kinds of flowers

27. Scented by the morning breeze
Or laden with fruit

28. As if a bouquet of flowers
None but the excellent, devout

Ruling above Saturn

31. Isaac is higher than a king
In honor and glory I hold you

32. The path of truth you walked
And the mansions of planets you conquered

33. Effortlessly you moved between stars
In your court a lion in its den

34. A raincloud in its downpour
The sea in its deep swells

35. A king whose command is done
The land quakes in awe of his generosity

36. And joy at his presence
For seekers of his favors

37. Yearning for their success
Giving what is asked

38. I stand tall, ready for matters
As lightning flashes in clouds

39. If he were to be generous one day, and bestow
Throne and court flourish through him

40. Pulpit wanders proudly
Boasting the time it recalls him

41. Through his name empires rise
Our place is to stand

42. Before him in reverence
However we describe him

43. All acknowledging
His overwhelming merit

44. O sun of faith, you remain
He who hopes in your favor

45. Your favor's key is sufficient
From you, wishes and purpose

46. You are the ultimate hope
So take them like scattered pearls

47. Arranged in ornate rhyme
Better than ink's infusion

48. Sweeter than rain's draught
The sun in a poet

49. Teeming sea of the mind
Casting gems

50. And every meaning of a poet
Remains as a parable to him

51. Singular poetry of his time
None gained from his verse

52. In praise or thanks
Except the fairness of his mention

53. And the least share
I have scattered masterworks

54. That seek every horizon
Wherein the famed would envy

55. If an era had prospered me
I'd have gained wealth quickly
