A windswept wasteland, empty and barren.

14. As if there had never been between us
Playful gatherings, now without any merriment.

15. If she has vanished from my flourishing days,
Still, she is unforgotten in my heart.

16. My friend, possessions have not made me forget her name,
Zainab and Lamees among the singing girls.

17. All I own after her seems incomplete and despicable
To my eyes and heart.

18. Thus they torture me daily with memories of her,
And even if her passion cured me, it caused pain.

19. By God, if I were just to her rights,
And that is a vow, if only the gloomy knew,

20. After hearing her voice, my ears
Would hear no more songs or cups.

21. I pretend to myself with futile ideas after her,
While her agony remains in my heart.

22. I force myself outwardly to show patience, though inside
I despair of patience without her.

23. I try to tame a stubborn camel with determination,
Yet that patience without her is a blazing sun.

24. My liver remains steadfast in anguish after her,
With tears flowing constantly in weeping,

25. How much sorrow and regret does the heart destroy!
When we compare, none like my lost possession.

26. I wish the schemes of a miserly enemy had destroyed her,
So souls find solace in attaining inheritance.

27. Then blood would flow, limbs severed,
And heads cut off there.

28. The earth would be too narrow on all sides
With armies swarming, pursued by armies.

29. Between the landmarks and dunes an uproar for her sake,
A clamor like none raised by Dahis or Basus.

30. To support her cause, heroes of Azd would rise
To fight for their Lord, fearsome warriors.

31. Bold champions, cavaliers all,
A chief restraining the march of armies.

32. Worthy to avenge, mourning as if
He were a brave stallion answering darkness' summons.

33. Valiant in confronting threats, a glorious hero
Who tames the tall and charges.

34. In their hands the Indian swords, wearing armor
Studded with nails, impenetrable coats of mail.

35. They are my people, the Hudad and my family,
Kings ruling the lofty branch of Samak.

36. They are the defenders of my lady love,
If only I could overcome the tricks of time, so cunning.

37. But fate destroyed Thamud and Ad before them,
As well as the people of Jadis.

38. Neither fortresses nor lions can protect her
In the lair of an undignified villain.

39. May God water Zad's grave with rain,
And may the greatest ruins rise above it.

40. May good peace return to her, and may holiness
Sanctify the hillside containing her tomb and monument.
