1. O my heart, how intense is your longing,
Beware of parting on the day we part!

2. The illusion of distance overwhelms me,
As the illusion of longing overwhelms me.

3. My composure refused to reveal
My overflowing eyelids and their tears.

4. Whenever passion stirs within me,
I conceal the outpouring in the corners of my eyes.

5. By my life! I weep in longing and rapture,
I am no pretender in professing love for the beloved.

6. How could it be so when playful diversions
Are more intimate with me, divorced through my own doing?

7. Love is only for the faces of maidens
Who touch cheeks of silk and tenderness.

8. And eyes half shut, wherein lies languor,
Like kohl on eyelids and glances.

9. And mouths partly open, with subtle gestures
Glistening clear in the moisture.

10. And excellent bosoms between roses
Smooth to the touch, stacked in order.

11. And throats adorned with necklaces
Of jewels and leaves hung about them.

12. And slight waists atop slender hips
Where the belt wraps round every curve.

13. Good living is for those who obtain
The delight of union with the beloved.

14. When mornings bring them languid ease
Beneath the shade of youth at the portico,

15. Listening to singers among the cups
Passed around in merriment.

16. By the glow of wine that lights up
The surface of goblets with glimmering color.

17. The spilling of wine, when it reveals
The agony of longing in the pouring vessel.

18. Or they sleep through the night
From dusk until dawn,

19. Next to a beauty free of all worries,
Voiding pacts and covenants.

20. Were it not for our distinguished leader Dhahal,
We would have joined Sham or Iraq,

21. For there we would have found in every expanse
Resources of wealth and refuge for the poor.

22. At the pasture of a generous host who gave drink
To the vicinity from a raincloud's downpour.

23. And there a tribe, whoever enters it,
Remains safe from tyranny.

24. We seek righteousness there, from trees
Ever-bearing of fruit and fecundity.

25. Alongside a master of kings
Who inherited the virtues of morality.

26. Excelling in kindness in word and deed
And faith, rightfully deserving of it.

27. He buys honest praise with wealth
Made sweet through his generosity.

28. Placing kindness from his giving hands
Upon us like a necklace around the neck.

29. Of welcoming smile, seeking all things precious,
And reaching every aim ahead.

30. Accomplished in merit, upright in effort
Of good character and untainted lineage.

31. When you look upon him, you will say
“Glory to my Lord, the Creator.”

32. God made rise from him at the forefront
A sun shining from a radiant brow.

33. Every royal face beside his
Is darkened like the crescent near obscurity.

34. I am drowning in the sea of his attributes,
Helpless to fathom its depths.

35. His merit is undeniable and his supremacy
Cannot be matched, schemes cannot touch him.

36. And if he wishes to harm an enemy,
He does not threaten or boast.

37. Holder of the reins of the honored Yemeni steed
With a bridle of the finest leather worn.

38. Of kings most dear who granted him haven
In distant lands far removed.

39. They are his defenders against his foes
And subduers of those who cause dissent.

40. With lofty minarets and thoroughbred steeds
And ransomed slaves beyond measure.

41. They made their houses noble and built them
High above, seven layers tall.

42. He protects their honor and they do not
Turn from blame or covenant.

43. You, Dhahal, O Abu Hassan, O
Marvel who surpasses all in merit.

44. May God give you breadth and elevation
With compliance from purpose and concord.

45. Vexing the enemies while you live in peace
And lengthen your life which remains.

46. And your noble sons prevail and endure
In bliss and harmony.

47. And wed you to a maiden of sublime essence
Make her your own, of the finest stock.
