1. O you tall statuesque beauty
You appeared to us among the twisting sands

2. How strange we are renewed in following her traces
The days of love and its generosity with tears

3. And we say what everyone did and where can I
Get an answer in the empty wilderness

4. My pledge to her while the house gathered us
For a time and the people of the district were not divided

5. And the chaste, beloved neighbors
Who sing in the summer-place and the square

6. And we have playgrounds for the boys
Between the streams and the grazing gazelles

7. From every lovely doe, perfumed with passion
Sashaying between embroidered cloth and glossy silk

8. She came out, swaying coquettishly as if
Her pillows were draped with tendrils of basil

9. And she appeared, shimmering in the prime of her youth
Like the rising sun or at daybreak

10. And she has a pond like the colored pebbles beneath her
A moon for ten in counting but only four

11. A flock of friends with whom we were happy for a time
In days of love before the flock was frightened

12. Then the time of all passed including ours
Except I remain like a helpless gazelle

13. She is used to my passion whenever
She crosses my mind through my ribs

14. And the scent of the breeze awakens me when it blows
And the lightning flashing excites me

15. Longing for the days of youth was futile
Is there any hope of their return?

16. And I see comfort for myself in complaining
By remembering the past even if it doesn't come back

17. And I prolong complaining of my state and my solitude
In comfort, wealth and satisfaction I did not attain

18. How many poor compared to me in wealth
If I counted what he has I wouldn't be satisfied with what I have

19. Or if my misfortune and my insistence
On the consent of my father, the most noble, didn't satisfy me

20. It's enough for me to be near Muhammad ibn Mu'ammar
And that he accepts my poetry in the best way

21. With good fortune, desire, and loyalty
And excess of habit that did not cut off

22. He is the rain cloud of spring
Succor of widows and hungry orphans

23. Who feeds guests with his good money
After the years of drought and shaking winds

24. He is the tall one competing for supreme height
Promising to be of no use if he does not benefit

25. And he reckons that wealth, when he wastes it
On what brings praise, is not squandered

26. Muhammad ibn Mu'ammar, you lengthened
The roads of benefits on the difficult path for us

27. And when the destitute complained of the vicissitudes of time
And saw sustenance scarce for them

28. They headed for Abu Abd Allah, so they camped
In the spacious courtyard of the sweet-watered house

29. He gives generously without holding back treasures
And donates spontaneously, exemplifying self-restraint

30. Unique in his excellence, I have not seen his like
In his excellence, nor heard of his equal

31. From him, prohibition and eloquence and generosity
And resolve for good even when opposed

32. And humility in his actions and speech
The traits of reserve appear in him

33. And if a blessing comes to him, it does not make him haughty
And if an affliction touches him, he does not wilt

34. Bearing patiently every repugnant situation
Remaining vigilant of the expected events

35. His resolve prevents him from weakness so he does not sleep
Just as the seeker of high status does not slumber

36. And he has wealth in livestock and camels
Among the kings of Qahtan and Tubba

37. He added glory to Azd and arrogance to Mudar
Competing for the most noble lineage

38. His in-laws envied him when they saw
The lowest relative in the highest position

39. And they saw the diverse virtues and noble traits
In Muhammad, whether followed or sought

40. And glorious deeds spoke in praise of Muhammad
In every land like the eloquent orator

41. O Muhammad ibn Mu'ammar, you are the one who
Revived us with the life of passionate clouds

42. You who provide for us pastures of bliss
In which our hopes graze

43. You who properly place favor with us
With the wisdom of your generous opinion

44. You are right to take pride in noble lineage
While others, O Muhammad, falsely claim

45. And for you is goodly praise, beautifully given
In reward for those who speak and listen

46. You have lived long, O son of Mu'ammar, and remained
In the blessings of comfortable life

47. And attained the glory of leadership and fortune
Obeyed among people of the wilderness

48. You rise above the ranks of kings with a rank
That occupies the most honorable and inaccessible position

49. So for you this literary ode in Arabic
Like well-nursed pearls adorned with radiance
