1. She looked at you with a kohl-lined eyelid
As if she looked with a twisted eyebrow

2. She was adorned with necklaces
Of beautiful pearls like the neck of a young gazelle

3. It's as if the threads of her dress
Sway between sequins and embroidery

4. She showed her cheek and smiled
Revealing teeth like polished pearls

5. Her veil is adorned with a brooch
Restless like a flowing robe

6. Her mount sways under the litter
Like a drowsy eyelid heavy with sleep

7. When she got up without reluctance
Her trailing dress dragged behind

8. She walked swaying her trinkets and jewels
With the gait of a sturdy man

9. The loved ones decided to depart
But you held no rein over their love

10. They raised the litters onto the mounts - if only
They had slaughtered the mounts and she had not traveled

11. They left at dawn, its emergence in the litters
From darkness, and its setting in gloom

12. They did not bid you farewell, though it was customary
For you at the camel driver’s call

13. Indeed, the heart reveals the pain of love
Stinging ember of burning passion

14. I almost forget, then yearning awakens
A vision of my life and passion

15. A vision that envelops me when darkness falls
After calm, in the stillness of night

16. I refused to endure the agony of love
While the atmosphere was clad in a flowing robe

17. A night that lingers until dawn, having seen
My wakefulness, like a lingering foe

18. Goodnight to your night’s sleep - I endured it
With the torment of an aching east wind

19. And days of joy I have sipped before
Ailments of an unpleasant mood unblended

20. In a meadow the clouds have woven for it
Pearl necklaces between beads and embroidery

21. With flowers of varied colors
Water lilies, poppies, and violets

22. She wore red carnelian jewelry
And green turquoise and aquamarine

23. I came early with diversions, and there emerged
The flags of its bright dawn

24. And from its horizon dripped dewdrops
And it inhaled the scent of the rustling breeze

25. As if for us the morning breeze had spread
A fragrant breeze of praise, richly scented

26. For Muhammad the devout, and Nabhan the pleased
And my father Hussein the refined and eloquent

27. I mean the three masters of the Bani Umar
Whose abode is in the stars like the full moons

28. Scent of praise, they are glorious for the glorious
And crowned - well-matched with the crowned

29. Their threshing floors provide for the needy poor
Their fortresses shelter the displaced refugee

30. Their hands constantly pour bounty
Like the pouring rain from laden clouds

31. The sword of valor - they marched with it equally
On the path of high virtue

32. The most splendid of men, like the full crescent moon
A hero of formidable build and unbending

33. When opponents clashed with argument
He presented his case without confusion

34. And if he joined battle you would see him
Among the regiments like a fiery meteor

35. He covered the battlefield among the stallions and gazelles
Like a shooting star blazing on a moonlit night

36. While the horses with ruffled manes like hawks
Swim in the meadow with each dust-laden one

37. In a squadron riding the battlefield, dusty as night,
Obscured by darkness, immersed in gloom

38. You see the Bani Nabhan, each a warrior
Tested in its calamities, deftly charging

39. Men who when they hear the call you see them
In equipment, towards the battle cry urging their rides

40. With them the stallions race, thoroughbred grays
Bared blades, descendants of ancestors noble and free

41. They have known their stance on the back of their steeds
As if none but them have ever mounted

42. When they attend the battle you see them
Like celestial bodies in the blackness of night

43. The Bani Nabhan, noble of lineage
And brilliance - their beacon burns bright

44. People all bear love for Muhammad
And Nabhan’s bliss, and Ahmad they seek

45. So remain, O Bani Umar, and live as protection
For the seeker of refuge and bounty for the needy
