1. I was told a dog of Kulayb howled in grief
And every howler, dust and stone fill his mouth
١. نُبِّئتُ كلبَ كُلَيبٍ قَد عَوى جَزَعا
وَكُلُّ عاوٍ بِفيهِ التربُ وَالحَجَرُ
2. He wailed and then complained, castigating me in displeasure
But his condition will not be changed by displeasure
٢. أَعيا فَعَقَّبَ يَهجوني بِهِ ضَجَرا
وَلَن يُغَيِّرَ عَنهُ السَؤَةَ الضَجرُ
3. He blames me unjustly for a precedent that preceded
Indeed, Kulayb was not destined for victory
٣. يَلومُني ظالِماً في سُنَّةٍ سَبَقَت
إِنَّ الكُلَيبيَّ لَم يُكتَب لَهُ ظَفَرُ
4. And I did not create you a servant without means
Rather, he is suited to obey and follow commands
٤. وَما خَلَقتُكَ عَبداً لا نِصابَ لَهُ
بَل هُو خَليقُ الَّذي يَقضي وَيأتَمِرُ
5. You tasked me as an owner, though an owner is enriched
O son of Muragha, victory has come to you
٥. كلفتني مالِكاً إِن مالِكٌ زَخَرَت
يا بنَ المُراغَةِ قَد جاءَت بِكَ النُصَرُ
6. And though the like of Farazdaq has stripped off
What is passed of Farazdaq's departure, once he bit the dust
٦. وَإِن تَجَرَّدَ أَمثالٌ خَدعتَ بِها
مِنَ الفَرَزدَقِ يَمضي ما مَضى السَفَرُ
7. When I saw the son of Layla with a singing girl
In his grasp, the reed pipes of the excellent predecessor
٧. لَمّا رَأَيت ابنَ لَيلى عِندَ غانيَةٍ
في كَفِّهِ قَصَباتُ السابِقِ الخِيَرُ
8. You roused Farazdaq so I resigned myself to death in grief
To the death that you avoid and death that abandons
٨. هِبتَ الفَرَزدَقَ فاِستَعفَيتَني جَزَعا
لِلمَوتِ يَعمُدُ وَالمَوتُ الَّذي تَذَرُ
9. So withdraw, perhaps you hope the departure of Farazdaq will befall us
When his backside bit the dust from beneath him
٩. فاِخسأ لَعَلَّكَ تَرجو أَن يَحُلَّ بِنا
رَحلُ الفَرَزدَقِ لَمّا عَضَّكَ الدَبَرُ
10. You insult the Banu Lajam when they were defeated
Frightened, while your snout from what was said, summarized
١٠. تَهجو بَني لَجأٍ لَمّا اِنهَزَمَت لَهُ
رُعبا وَأَنفُكَ مِمّا قالَ مُختَصَرُ
11. I am the sea, vast, no brave one dares cross me
And I ignite fire, beyond the sea blazing
١١. إِنّي أَنا البَحرُ غَمراً لَستَ جاسِرَهُ
وَسَبّيَ النارَ دونَ البَحرِ تَستَعِرُ
12. You have not ceased to collect voices, interrupting,
Roaming in villainy, longing and waking early
١٢. ما زِلتَ تَنتَجِعُ الأَصواتَ مُعتَرِضا
تَروحُ في اللؤُمِ مشتَقّاً وَتَبتَكِرُ
13. Until you provoked Abu Shibl, a man of valor
And coarseness, whose nature rugged rocks did not smooth
١٣. حَتّى اِستَثَرتَ أَبا شِبلين ذا لِبَدٍ
وَزَبرَةٍ لَم تواطي خَلقَها الزُبَرُ
14. His blow returns the villages like a plateau's ridge
A lion dies in the jungle from his roar
١٤. وردَ القَرى كَصَفاةِ الهَضبِ جَبهَتُهُ
يَموتُ مِن زَأرِهِ في الغابَةِ النَمِرُ
15. He runs and the mist separates when it separates
And the spear beneath his hand when he brandishes
١٥. يَعدو فَتَنفَرِجُ الغُمّى إِذا اِنفَرَجَت
وَالقِرنُ تَحتَ يَدَيهِ حينَ يَهتَصِرُ
16. His tusks gashed your cheeks, prevailing
The nails of his hollow interior pierced and tore
١٦. شَكَّت أَنابيبُهُ صُدغَيكَ مُقتَدِرا
شَكَّ المَساميرِ عُودا جَوفُهُ نَخِرُ
17. What ails the saying of Jarir when I detain him
From drinks, indeed the water is hoarded
١٧. ما بالُ قَولِ جَريرٍ يَومَ أَحبِسُهُ
عَنِ المَشارب إِنَّ الماءَ يُحتَضَرُ
18. Make way for us to drink, so I said to him
A sword behind you until the walls collapse
١٨. خَلِّ الطَريقَ لَنا نَشرَب فَقُلتُ لَهُ
سَيفٌ وَراءَكَ حَتّى تَفضُلَ السُؤَرُ
19. Indeed the road is for those arriving to us
O son of the donkey and basin of the elderly's burial
١٩. إِنَّ الطَريقَ طَريقُ الوارِدينَ لَنا
يا بنَ الأَتانِ وَأَحواضِ الجِبى الكُبَرُ
20. Indeed the basin which the Banu Khatfa built
Is built with villainy, never ceasing to collapse
٢٠. إِنَّ الحِياضَ الَّتي تَبني بَنو الخَطَفى
تُبنى بِلؤمٍ فَما تَنفَكُّ تَنفَجِرُ
21. Its lower supports were its highest
So how can it be built on when it crumbles
٢١. كانَت غَوائِلُها السُفلى أَعاليَها
فَكَيفَ تُبنى عَلَيها وَهيَ تَنكَسِرُ
22. Build the minaret, for the servant will support it
Above the sublime, on its trunk the circle
٢٢. ابنوا المَنارَ فإِنَّ العَبدَ يَنضُدُهُ
فَوقَ الصوى وَعَلى خَرطومِهِ المَدَرُ
23. If you weep for the dead to marry them
Then weep, Jarir, for here is a wedding match
٢٣. إِن كُنتَ تَبكي عَلى المَوتى لِتَنكِحَهُم
فابرك جَريرُ فَهَذا ناكِحٌ ذَكَرُ
24. You have lied, and the worst of speech is the most lying
She did not consider you apart from her reckoning, Mudar
٢٤. لَقَد كَذَبتَ وَشَرُ القَولِ أَكذَبهُ
ما خاطَرَت بِكَ عَن أَحسابِها مُضِرُ
25. Rather, you are the fancy of a debaucher with a slave girl
Whom villainy and vileness did not precede
٢٥. بَل أَنتَ نَزوَةُ خَوّارٍ عَلى أمَةٍ
لَن يَسبِقَ الحَلباتِ اللؤمُ وَالخَورُ
26. O son of Muragha, the worst of two people, Abu
Za'a with Muragha, wherever fate cast you
٢٦. يا بنَ المُراغَةِ شَرَّ العالَمينَ أَبا
زُع بِالمراغَةِ حيثُ اضطركَ القَدرُ
27. What is with your mother by elopement when she unveiled
An old camel, its hair tangled, which she covered
٢٧. ما بالُ أُمكَ بِالمنحاةِ إِذ كَشَفَت
عَن عَضرَطٍ واِرمٍ قَد غَمَّهُ الشَعَرُ
28. To a wicked Berberi whose stench is foul
Better she be defended there, O son of villainy
٢٨. لِبَربريٍّ خَبيثِ الريحِ أَبرَكَها
هَلا هُنالِكَ يا بنَ اللؤمِ تَنتَصِرُ
29. As if her genitals and the slave plowing her
Were a scab on the vulva of an old she-camel sprouting
٢٩. كأَن عُنبُلَها وَالعَبدُ يُنسِفُها
حِبنٌ عَلى رَكَبِ البَظراءِ يَنبَتِرُ
30. As if the upper arm of a villainous, black
Mother of Jarir, when she is enraged
٣٠. كَأَنَّ جَفرَ صَراةٍ مطرمٍ هَدِمٍ
مَشغَرُ أُمِّ جَريرٍ حينَ تَشتَغِرُ
31. Ample and vile, the froth on it thickened
Bleating, shrill voiced, pouring
٣١. رَحبُ المَشَقِّ عَلَيهِ اللَيفُ ذو زَبَدٍ
مُعَتّصِلٌ قَبقَبيُّ الصَوتِ مُنهَمِرُ
32. Villainy impregnated her and villainy sired her
And every stallion has his share of begetting
٣٢. اللُؤمُ أَنكَحَها وَاللُؤمُ أَلقَحَها
وَكُلُ فَحلٍ لَهُ مِن ضَربِهِ قَدَرُ
33. I have not said at all except I will refute it
O son of the donkey, with my like, verse is refuted
٣٣. ما قُلتَ في مِرَّةٍ إِلّا سَأنقُضُها
يا بنَ الأَتانِ بِمِثلي تُنقَضُ المِرَرُ
34. Her pubic hair came with Jarir's nose entangled
Indeed the curvature, branching, is snatched
٣٤. جاءَت بِأَنفِ جَريرٍ شَعرُها مَعهُ
إِنَّ الثَنيَّةَ ذاتَ الفَرعِ تُبتَدَرُ
35. She came with a slave of Banu Khatfa suckling
In her armpits, bristling if you face him
٣٥. جاءَت بِأَرضَعَ عَبدٍ مِن بَني الخَطَفى
في أَخدَعيهِ إِذا اِستَقبَلتَهُ صَعَرُ
36. Had you been virtuously born of a mother not birthing
You would have shackled a mare never impregnated by lifespan
٣٦. لَو كُنتَ بَرّاً بِأُمٍ غَيرِ مُنجِبَةٍ
سَرَمتَ جولَ اِستِها لَم يَهجُها عُمَرُ
37. Do you mimic a verse, O Abu Khurut
Of people whose saliva after old age is scattered
٣٧. أَأَن تَمَثَلتَ بَيتاً يا أَبا خُرُطٍ
ناسٍ لُعابَكَ بَعدَ الشَيبِ يَنتَثِرُ
38. So unleash your father, O Banu Khatfa, freely
This, to you, O Banu Khatfa, is the excuse
٣٨. فارهِز أَباكَ بُنيَّ الخَيطَفى طَلَقا
هَذا إِلَيكَ بُنيَّ الخَيطفى العِذَرُ
39. And fill your quiver from the back of a disgraced woman
If speech has provoked you with no dishonor in it
٣٩. وَملأ صِماخَكَ مِن عَوراءَ مُخزيَةٍ
إِن كان هاجَكَ قَولٌ ما بِهِ عَوَرُ
40. If you are humiliated, then this slave has debased him
And if you are scorned, then you, slave, are scorned
٤٠. فَإِن أُهِنكَ فَهَذا العَبدُ أَخسأَهُ
وَإِن حُقِرتَ فأَنتَ العَبدُ تُحتَقَرُ
41. I did not refrain from Jarir when I aimed at him
My arrow, and I was not one from which the moon is concealed
٤١. وَما ختَلتُ جَريرا حينَ أَقصدَهُ
سَهمي وَما كُنتُ مِنَّن يُخَبأُ القَمَرُ
42. The eagle passed by him until I aimed for him
And the wild animal was wary until desolation guided it
٤٢. جازَ العِقابُ بِهِ حَتّى قَصَدتُ لَهُ
واِعتَرَّ حَتّى أَفادَت وَحشَهُ الغَرَرُ
43. Your mangonels failed when you shot them
From your mother's vagina, no rock reached her
٤٣. وَمُنجَنيقُكَ خَرَّت إِذ رَمَيتَ بِها
عِن استِ أُمكَ لَم يَبلِغ لَها حَجَرُ
44. You shoot feeble arrows, their penetrators dissipating
So beware her penetrations, caution will not save you
٤٤. تَرمي عَلى كَزَّةٍ بادٍ قَوادِحُها
فاِحذَر فَوادِحَها لا يُنجِكَ الحَذَرُ
45. Indeed the despicable Jarir, when a slave emptied him
In the corner of evil, his water turbid
٤٥. إِنَّ اللَئيمَ جَريرا يَومَ فَرَّغَهُ
في قُرنَةِ السَوءِ عَبدٌ ماؤُهُ كَدِرُ
46. And in the womb, villainy, in its pit
Until villainy and old age seared his cheeks
٤٦. وَفي المَشيمَةِ لؤمٌ في مقَرَّتِها
حَتّى شَوى صُدُغَيه اللؤمُ وَالكِبَرُ
47. A slave, if he intends for the most high, his ambitiousness
Blocks him, from villainy, which no sight penetrates
٤٧. عَبدٌ إِذا ناءَ لِلعَليا تَكاءَدَهُ
سدٌّ مِنَ اللؤمِ لا يَجتازُهُ البَصَرُ
48. Look, you see villainy between his beard
And his eyebrows, when aiming is possible
٤٨. أَلقِ العَصا صاغِرا لَيسَ القيامُ لَكُم
واقعُد جَريرُ فَأَنتَ الأَعقَدُ الزَمِرُ
49. O villainy of the Kulaybi tribe with their women
They did not fight the people when taken captive, nor thanked
٤٩. لَقَد وَجَدتُم جَريرا يا بَنيِ الخَطفى
بِئسَ المُراهِنُ حَتىّ ابتُلَّتِ العُذَرُ
50. They pursued the women who birthed them
Behind the donkeys, wine in their necks mixed
٥٠. سُدَّت عَلَيكَ الثَنايا واِستَدرَتَ لَها
كَما تَحيَّرَ تَحتَ الظُلمَةِ الحيَرُ
51. They did not overtake them, and their composures distracted them
Until Salman came before them or another
٥١. دَقَّت ثَنيَّتَهُ الثرَماءَ حينَ جَرى
طولُ العِشار وَأَدمى باستهِ الثَفَرُ
52. So they became armed among the Banu Shayban
Some of them taunting others, hostility boiling
٥٢. إِن كانَ قالَ جَريرٌ إِنَّ لي نَفَرا
مِن صالِحِ الناسِ فاِسأَلهُ مَن النَفَرُ
53. Until the purest of their women came to you afterward
After the protrusions, their ropes extending
٥٣. أَمُعرِضٌ أَم مُعيدٌ أَم بَنو الخَطَفى
تِلكَ الأَخابِثُ ما طابوا وَما كَثروا
54. Their white forelocks, from Wail, implying Numay destroyed them
Bakr and Taghlib subjugated you, who made
٥٤. خِزيٌ حياتُهُم رِجسٌ وَفاتُهُم
لا تَقبَلُ الأَرضُ مَوتاهُم إِذا قُبِروا
55. The color of dust upon your cheek, O blasphemy
The granters to you of the chastity of your women
٥٥. أُندُب بَني الخَطَفى إِن كُنتَ تُعلِمهُم
شَيئاً وَإِلّا فَلَم يَشعُر بِهِم بَشَرُ
56. Numayy did not restrict them from you, nor trace
O son of Muragha, do not boast with pride
٥٦. تَنتَحِلُ المَجدَ لَم يَعلَم أَبوكَ بِهِ
هَيهاتَ جارَ بِكَ الإِيرادُ وَالصَدَرُ
57. After retrieving from the captives the lame
I am the son of Julhum, O son of two wicked ones, Abu
٥٧. أُندُب خَنازيرَ لُؤمٍ أُلحِقوا بِهِم
وَاِترُك جَريرُ ذَهابا حَيثُ تَقتَفِرُ
58. And the son of Jisaas and Taim when I pride myself
The directors, their directions are exhausted
٥٨. هَل أَنتَ إِلّا حِمارٌ مِن بَني الخَطَفى
فَصَوِّب الطَرفَ لَم يُفسَح لَكَ النَظَرُ
59. And the feeders of fat until the rain is released
And the leaders of Yemen and the courageous, their influence
٥٩. بَيتُ المَدَقَّةِ لَم يَشعُر بِهِم أَحَدٌ
إِذا هُمُ في مَراغِ الأَرنَبِ اِنجَحَروا
60. The day of ordeal, and the slain when they exhibit courage
And the parents, kings, you used to worship them
٦٠. لَقَد عَلِمتُ عَلى أَنّي أَسبُّهُمُ
ما في بَني الخَطَفى مِن والِدي ثُؤَرُ
61. Before prostrating in your supremacy ridiculed
And the preventers by God's permission, protected
٦١. وَإِنَّ كُلَّ كَريمٍ قامَ ذا حَسَبٍ
يَهجو جَريرا يَسُبُّ العَبدَ أَو يَذَرُ
62. The tribe of Taim, and war's fire kindled
We preceded Taim the days of dogs together
٦٢. يَدعو عُتَيبَةَ إِذ دَقَّت بَنو الخَطَفى
حَتّى رَمى وَجهَهُ مِن دونِهِ وَزَرُ
63. So they became crippled, though tribes did not limp
And the day we favored them, we the slaughterers of it
٦٣. وَقَعنَبٌ يا بنَ لا شَيءٍ هَتَفتَ بِهِ
إِذ مالَ رجلُكَ واِنهاضَت بِكَ الأُسَرُ
64. For the people, their command disseminated
And the day of the Tigris, formations made to drink
٦٤. أَن تَلبَسِ الخَزَّ تَظلِمهُ أَبا خُرُطٍ
وَأَنتَ بِاللؤمِ معتَمٌّ وَمُؤتَزِرُ
65. A cup of violence in it, morning drink and evening
And the day of Sa'd and Sahn, so horsemen of ours pursued
٦٥. وَيَنزِلُ الخَزُّ مِنكَ اليَومَ مَنزِلَةً
ما كانَ لِلخَزِّ فيما قَبلَها الأَثَرُ
66. Without wavering or boredom
And the day we embraced Suwaid and Al-Qannas, intending
٦٦. فَأَصبَحَ الخَزُّ يَبكي مِن بَني الخَطَفى
يا خَزَّ كِرمانَ صَبرا إِنَّها الهِتَرُ
67. And the horses galloping over them, hordes muddy
And our women remained as the position of a star
٦٧. وَكانَ خَزُّ جَريرٍ كُلَّ مُمتَزِقٍ
مِن صوفِ ماهرَّأت مِن ضَأنِها القِرَرُ
68. While your violated women are taken captive, without bride-price
We raid and capture while our women are not taken captive
٦٨. فَأُمُّهُ في قَبيلَي بُردَةٍ خَلَقٍ
وَالخَيطَفى في شِمالِ اللؤمِ مُعتَجِرُ
69. Indeed, fighting for Taim are matters destined
We are from the womb of an undiminished horse
٦٩. أَما قَبائِلُ يَربوعٍ فَلَيسَ لَها
فيما يَعُدُّ ذَوو الأَحسابِ مُفتَخَرُ
70. O son of she who carried him while startled
No stance diminished us which we took
٧٠. لا يُفقَدونَ إِذا غابوا وَإِن شَهِدوا
لَم تَستَشِرُهُم تَميمٌ حينَ تَأتَمِرُ
71. Nor does vengeance for us by another give sanctuary
We have not been oppressed, we are a people like suns
٧١. تُقضى الأَمورُ وَيَربوعٌ مُخَلَّفَةٌ
حَتّى يَقولوا غداةَ الغِبِّ ما الخَبَرُ
72. Apart from our reputations, and death is present
Our roots are hardened, their fragments
٧٢. تُشارِبُ الذُلَ يَربوعٌ إِذا وَرَدوا
وَالذُلُّ يَصدُرُ فيهِم أَينَما صَدَروا
73. So we do not sink when the bases erode
Perils of truth, when we stand by them
٧٣. إِن جارُهُم طرَقتُهُ غولُ غَيرِهِم
طارَ الحَديثُ وَما أَوفوا وَما صَبَروا
74. While the son of the donkey, Jarir, has no peril
Leave the plaisance and Sa'da, you will not attain them
٧٤. وَجامعَ اللؤمُ يَربوعا وَحالَفها
ما دامَ أَسفَلَ مِن ماويَةَ الحَفَرُ
75. Far, very far from you, are the sun and moon
They are the quickest people in seeking when they pursue
٧٥. الأَبعَدونَ مِن الأَحسابِ مَنزِلَةً
وَالأَخبَثونَ عُصاراتٍ إِذا اِعتُصِروا
76. And the greatest of people in aspirations when they intend
Continuous with a coming torrent you cannot detain
٧٦. الأَالأَمونَ فلوَّا شَبَّ في غَنَمٍ
وَفي الحَميرِ أَبوهُ الأَشمَطُ القَمِرُ
77. And their torrent is not cast when they overflow
The Banu Khatfa knew on that day
٧٧. قِردانُ ملأمَةٍ في الشاءِ جَدُهُم
ميلٌ عَواتِقُهُم مِن طولِ ما زَفَروا
78. My disputation is beyond what they estimated
They will know when it is said which of the two
٧٨. فَهُم لآباءِ سَوءٍ أُلحِقوا بِهِم
زُلا حِناكا وَلا يدرونَ ما السُوَرُ
79. O son of Muragha, I will surely be victorious
And the matter is clarified by shining white
٧٩. خِزيُ البُعولَةِ وَالأَفواهُ مُرِوحَةٌ
إِذا تَفَتَّلَ في أَستاهِها الشَعَرُ
80. From me the preceders, on their necks the good news
Of victory, and God did not grant victory to Banu Khatfa
٨٠. سُودٌ مَدارينُ تَلقى في بُيوتِهِم
قُدَّامَ أَخبيَةِ اللؤم الَّذي اِحتَجَروا
81. And the believers, when they ask for help, are helped
The stance of Jarir did not cease from Banu Khatfa
٨١. وَإِن حَبالاهُمُ نَتَجنَ بشَّرهُمُ
صَوتُ الصَبيِّ بِلؤمٍ حينَ يَعتَقِرُ
82. A wave covers Banu Khatfa and they did not hasten
Until the current's coast met above them
٨٢. إِنّي سَبَبتُهمُ سَبّا سيورِثُهُم
خِزيا وَمنقَصةً في الناسِ ما عَمِروا
83. No sea except for the submerger its wave obliterates
He ended like Pharaoh, when he leads his faction
٨٣. لَقَد ذَعَرنا قَديما في نِسائِكُمُ
فَلَم تَغاروا وَلَم تُستَنكَرِ الذُعَرُ
84. Hoping for bridges, though they neither feared nor dared
So the marrier of the dead did not protect Banu Khatfa
٨٤. أَزمانَ وَصّى بيَربوعٍ فَحَضَّهُمُ
عِندَ الوَفاةِ تَميمٌ وَهوَ مُحتَضَرُ
85. Until I unleash them from what they cautioned against
Suhaym has indeed prevented you from disputing me
٨٥. أَنَّ الفُحولَ لَكُم تَيمٌ وَأَنَكُمُ
حَلائِلُ التيم فاِستَوصوا بِما أَمَروا
86. The people of action, and the youths of glory, honorable
Had the Banu Khatfa been from Bistam's clan
٨٦. أَما كُلَيبٌ فَإِنَّ اللَهَ زادَ لها
لُؤما عَلى كُلِّ شَيءٍ زادَهُ الكِبَرُ
87. Or from Hanifa, they would not have pounded or deluged
O son of Muragha, if you wake miserable by it
٨٧. لا السِنُّ يَنهاهُ عَن لُؤمٍ وَلا طَبَعٍ
وَلَيسَ مانِعُهُ مِن لُؤمِهِ الصِغَرُ
88. Then Muragha is only wickedness, filthy
You insult the transmitters though others have pained you
٨٨. أُنظُر تَرَ اللُؤمَ فيما بَينَ لحيَتِهِ
وَحاجِبَيهِ إِذا ما أَمكَنَ النَظَرُ
89. And apportioned you into arrows when you are carved up
The transmitters are not the evil Banu Lu'um to you
٨٩. يا لُؤمَ رَهطِ كُلَيبٍ في نِسائِهِم
ما قاتَلوا القَومَ إِذ تُسبى وَلا شَكَروا
90. O son of the donkey, impatience does not agitate you
Indeed, do not rush to insult the transmitters
٩٠. فاِستَردَفوا النِسوَةَ اللاتي وَلَدنَهُمُ
خَلفَ العَضاريطِ في أَعناقِها الخمُرُ
91. They circulated poems in the horizons and disseminated
٩١. لَم يُدرِكوها وَأَلهَتهُمُ أَناتُهمُ
حَتّى أَتى دونَها سَلمانُ أَو أُقَرُ
٩٢. فَأَصبَحت في بَني شيبانَ مُسلَحَةً
يُعيرهم بَعضُهُم بَعضا وَتؤتَجَرُ
٩٣. حَتّى أَتينَكُم مِن بَعدِ مُخلَفِها
بَعدَ السِفادِ وَحُبلاهن تَنتَظِرُ
٩٤. جَزَّت نواصيها بيضٌ غَطارِفَةٌ
مِن وائِلٍ أَنَّ نُعمى سيبَهُم دِرَرُ
٩٥. بَكرٌ وَتغلِبُ ساموكَ الَّتي جَعَلَت
لَونَ التُرابِ عَلى خَدَّيكَ يا كُفَرُ
٩٦. الواهِبونَ لَكُم أَطهارَ نِسوَتِكُم
لَم يَجزِها مِنكُم نُعمى وَلا أَثَرُ
٩٧. يا بنَ المَراغَةِ لَم تَفخَر بِمَفخرَةٍ
بَعدَ الرِدافِ مِنَ المَسبيَّةِ العُقُرُ
٩٨. أَنا ابنُ جُلهمَ يا بنَ الأَخبَثينَ أَبا
وابنُ جِساسٍ وَتَيمٍ حينَ أَفتَخِرُ
٩٩. المُصدري الأَمرَ قَد أَعيَت مَصادِرُهُ
وَالمَطعَمي الشَحمَ حَتّى يُرسَلَ المَطَرُ
١٠٠. وَقادَةُ اليُمنِ وَالمَجسورِ أَثرُهمُ
يَومَ المُهمَّةِ وَالجُلىَّ إِذا جَسَروا
١٠١. وَالوالِدينَ مُلوكا كُنتَ تَعبُدُهُم
مِن قَبلِ سَجحَةَ في عَليائِكَ السُخَرُ
١٠٢. وَالمانِعينَ بإِذنِ اللَهِ مَحميَّةً
بَني تَميمٍ ونارُ الحَربِ تَستَعِرُ
١٠٣. قُدنا تَميماً لأَيام الكُلابِ مَعاً
فاِستَعثَروا جَدَّ أَقوامٍ وَما عَثَروا
١٠٤. وَيَومَ تَيمَنَ نَحنُ الناحِرونَ بِها
جَبّارَ مَذحِجَ وَالجَبّارُ يَنتَحِرُ
١٠٥. هَلّا سَأَلتَ بِنا حَسّانَ يَومَ كَبا
وَالرمحُ يُخلِجُهُ وَالخَدُّ مُنعَفِرُ
١٠٦. وَإِذ أَغارَ شُمَيطٌ نَحوَ نِسوَتِنا
غِرنا عَلَيهنَّ إِنّا مَعشَرٌ غُيُرُ
١٠٧. ذُدنا الخَميسَ وَلَم نَفعَل كَفِعلِكُمُ
بِالضَربِ شُذِّبتِ الهاماتُ وَالقَصَرُ
١٠٨. فَأَصبَحوا بَينَ مَقتولٍ وَمؤتَسَرٍ
شُدَّت يَداهُ إِلى اللِيتينِ تؤتَسَرُ
١٠٩. وَيَومَ سَخبانَ أَبرَمنا بِواحِدَةٍ
لِلناس أَمرَهُمُ وَالأَمرُ مُنتَشِرُ
١١٠. وَيَومَ دَجلَةَ أَكداسٌ يُجَرِّعُها
كأسَ الفَطيمَةِ فيها الصابُ وَالمَقِرُ
١١١. وَيَومَ سَعدٍ وَصَحنى فَر قَرى لَحِقَت
مِنّا فَوارِسُ لا مَيلٌ وَلا ضُجُرُ
١١٢. يَومَ اِعتَنَقنا سُوَيدا والقَنا قِصَدٌ
وَالخَيلُ تَعدو عَلَيها عِثيَرٌ كَدِرُ
١١٣. وَلَم تَزَل كَمَكانِ النجمِ نِسوَتُنا
إِذ مؤدفاتُك تُسبى ما لَها مَهَرُ
١١٤. نَغزو فَنَسبي وَلا تُسبى حَلائِلُنا
إِنَّ القِتالَ لتَيمٍ طائِرٌ أَمِرُ
١١٥. إِنّا لِبَطنِ حَصانٍ غَيرِ ضائِعَةٍ
يا بنَ الَّتي حَمَلَتهُ وَهيَ تَمتَذِرُ
١١٦. لَم يُخزِنا مَوقِفٌ كُنّا نَقومُ بِهِ
ولا يُجيرُ عَلَينا ثأرَنا الغِيَرُ
١١٧. ما نالَنا الضيمُ إِنّا مَعشَرٌ شُمُسٌ
مِن دونِ أَحسابِنا وَالمَوتُ مُحتَضَرُ
١١٨. وَإِنَّ نَبعَتَنا صُلبٌ مَكاسِرُها
فَلا نَخورُ إِذا ما خارَتِ العُشَرُ
١١٩. أَخطارُ صِدقٍ إِذا قُمنا نَقومُ بِها
وابنُ الأَتانِ جَريرٌ ما لَهُ خَطَرُ
١٢٠. دَعِ الرِبابَ وَسَعدا لَستَ نائِلَها
هَيهاتَ هَيهاتَ مِنكَ الشَمسُ وَالقَمَرُ
١٢١. هُم أَسرَعُ الناس إِدراكا إِذا طَلَبوا
وَأَعظَمُ الناسِ أَحلاما إِذا قَدَروا
١٢٢. مُدوّا بِسَيلٍ أَتيٍّ لَستَ حابِسَهُ
وَلَيسَ سيلُهمُ يُلقى إِذا زَخَروا
١٢٣. كانوا قَديماً أَشَدَّ الناسِ مُعتَمَدا
في الأَوَلينَ وَفي الحِلفِ الَّذي غَبَروا
١٢٤. وَلَو يَشاؤونَ ماتَت مِن مَخافَتِهِم
أَدنى الأَسوَدِ وَأَقصاهُم إِذا زَأَروا
١٢٥. كانوا إِذا الأَمرُ أَعيَتكُم مَصادرُهُ
يَكفونَهُ وَإِذا ما هِبتُم جَسَروا
١٢٦. قَد عَلِمَت يَومَها هَذا بَنو الخَطَفى
إِني مرافَعَتي فَوقَ الَّذي قَدَروا
١٢٧. سَيَعلَمونَ إِذا ما قيلَ أَيُهُما
يا بنَ المَراغَةِ إِني سَوفَ أَنتَصِرُ
١٢٨. وَصَرَّحَ الأَمرُ عَن بيضٍ مُشَهَّرَةٍ
مِني سَوابِقَ في أَعناقِها البُشرُ
١٢٩. بِالنَصرِ واللَهُ لَم يَنصر بَني الخَطَفى
وَالمؤمِنونَ إِذا ما اِستَنصَروا نُصِروا
١٣٠. ما زالَ حينُ جَريرٍ عَن بَني الخَطفى
يَغشى بَني الخَطَفى مَوجٌ وَما مَهَروا
١٣١. حَتّى التَقى ساحِلُ التيارِ فَوقَهُمُ
لا بَحرَ إِلّا لِغاشي موجهِ جَزَرُ
١٣٢. أَمسى كَفِرعَونَ إِذ يَقتادُ شيعَتَهُ
يَرجو الجُسورَ فَما كَرّوا وما جَسَروا
١٣٣. فَما حَمى ناكِحُ المَوتى بَني الخَطَفى
حَتّى يفرِّعَهُم مِني الَّذي حَذَروا
١٣٤. لَقَد نَهَتكَ سُحَيمٌ عَن مُرافَعَتي
أَهل الفَعالِ وَفِتيانُ النَدى غُيُرُ
١٣٥. لَو كانَ مِن رَهطِ بِسطامٍ بَنو الخَطَفى
أَو مِن حَنيفَةَ ما دَقّوا وَما غَمَروا
١٣٦. يا بنَ المَراغَةِ إِن تُصبِح لَها نَكَدا
فَما المُراغَةُ إِلّا خُبثَةٌ قَذَرُ
١٣٧. تَهجو الرواةَ وَقَد ذَكّاكَ غَيرُهُم
وَجزَّأوكَ سِهاما حينَ تُجتَزَرُ
١٣٨. وَما الرواةُ بَنو اللؤم الفَعال لَكُم
يا بنَ الأَتانِ فَلا يَعجَل بِكَ الضَجَرُ
١٣٩. إِنَّ الرواةَ فَلا تَعجَل بِسَبِّهِم
بَثوا القَصائِدَ في الآفاقِ واِنتَشَروا
