2. We both arose early, each volunteering,
When the confederates desired combat.

3. Al-Farazdaq called for Hajib, Utārid,
The two ‘Aqra’s, Habīs and ‘Iqāl.

4. While you called Qunnas, Al-Ma’īd, Qarhad,
The abstainers, Khayṭaf and Thimāl.

5. Al-Farazdaq preceded in generosity and nobility,
While the son of Marāgha enumerates ruins.
