1. Glory to the Knower of my secrets and mysteries,
My witness whether absent or present in my house.

2. He knows the secret within me wherever I hide it,
None else has knowledge of my secrets.

3. I am not pleased with other than Him as a substitute,
I take refuge in His Might from every despotic tyrant.

4. I complain to Allah of those who blamed me for my generosity
Towards the stingy from the sons of my time.

5. I who do not see restraint befitting me,
So I do not abandon my generosity, fearing poverty.

6. I disciplined myself for things I know
Are all the deeds of the generous.

7. I have no path but to follow them,
And to vie with them in every field.

8. If I spent the tips of my wealth arbitrarily,
Along with being wasteful, I would not care, O my neighbor!

9. Does the man of generosity withhold money fearing poverty?
The sweat of generosity flows in the channels of his body.

10. If the earth filled with gold to the brim,
Not a tenth of it would spend the night with me.

11. I do not worry about the heavy debt I carry,
Allah will carry most of that fleeting accident.

12. My Master will fulfill it for me, He is most generous,
However He wills, without compulsion.

13. O friend, say to the one who reproached me for my debt,
“What do I care for that shame from shame?”

14. People are but as motes, so be wherever you wish,
Indeed Allah described them truly with forms.

15. The worst of creation are like flies, their main concern
Is to harm the wilderness with their hearing and sight.

16. Leave those who criticize me for debt and pelt me,
And those who see wastefulness in my generosity.

17. Never have I intended but good,
For one with good intentions who came, or for family and neighbor.

18. I do not withhold kindness from my family to protect them,
Nor from the neighbor who is as close as home itself.

19. I only sought debt for an emergency,
In which pleasing the Creator was intended.

20. Or in affairs of strained relations I dispelled,
And who else would care for them now but me?

21. Spend without fear of decrease, for your Lord has
Endless generosity and overflowing grace.

22. Do not heed those who see extravagance in feeding
A guest in fasting or in breaking fast.

23. May Allah reward you if you do one good deed tenfold,
The reciter is certain of this.

24. Say to those who blamed me for generosity: I will do it,
Generosity is the noblest of my objectives and forms.

25. Whatever faults him and whatever news of me concerns him
Until he pries into what is beneath my covers.

26. Do not trouble my sea with a carcass you threw,
Nor harm my full moon with the barking of a howler.

27. None can veil from me whom I desire to have my fire,
None can extinguish whom I encourage to my fire.

28. He who blamed me did not know that in debt I had grasped
A breastplate, a second of two in the cave as collateral.

29. This in the hadith of the breastplate we memorize
From its memorizers who are virtuous scholars.

30. I have as a model the Messenger of Allah whom I follow,
A lineage I spread in all regions.

31. Haydara my father died in debt which clung to him
Yet it did not ask him little or much.

32. Nor did it detract from the nobility of the debts
Of the Farouq, so listen and be content with my accounts.

33. So too Al-Zubayr, debt befell him, yet never
Did it embarrass him, protector of the helpless.

34. For they are generous souls whom the honor of
Their debt did not demean at all.

35. And among them are generous souls none equal
In generosity, whether settled in Najd or the deserts.

36. Of the House of Glory, the Hashimites, like my father
Abu Shams, the Guiding Sun, and the sons of Zahra, shining moons.

37. Firm of origin is Zayn al Abideen, and of
His attributes few need declaring.

38. Honor belongs to the travels of Al 'Abbas, who came
To people pride, torrents and showers.

39. And the unique son of Ja'far in his generosity
So wondrous, an ocean of munificence from a gallant ancestry.

40. I am the young man of generous folk, so if
I strive to emulate their excellent preference.

41. My family are plants of glory, none equal them
In every place where they dwelt.

42. If I inherited glory after they passed away
How many terrors then did I ride!

43. I am the son of those whose generosity encompassed all people
Until it was recounted in every gathering.

44. I am Al-Jawad son of Abdullah; if the subject is generosity,
I am its buyer.

45. I am al-Radi son of the Virgin. When the sequence
Of noble ancestors is linked.

46. Do you not see that I repaid the debt of my father
Which was thirty thousand dinars?

47. My old and new glory none can equal,
No glory rivaled it in patience and altruism.

48. I remain a cup of benevolence, its first portion
Virtue, and its second innocence from guilt.

49. I do not refrain from the virtues I am ascribed to,
From their majesty, from my gifts and my probity.

50. May Allah assist me with my debt and possessions,
Help of mankind, protector of the oppressed.

51. Succor of wildernesses, Salah al-Din, prosper it,
None preceded in excellence of management and disbursement.

52. May Allah maintain his might and bounty,
And whoever opposes him in humiliation and harm.

53. Then prayers upon the Chosen One, so long as
Turtle doves cooed in the arbors and sanctuaries.

54. And his family and companions, then those who followed them
So long as the Pleiades shone in the sky.
