1. Beware the eyes of strangers upon Laila
And beware wandering between those cheeks

2. For how much deceit and tyranny lies there
And many a sword that ends lives

3. Stand by the wisdom of cause and manners
In judgment never leave the gate

4. No inner without outer manners
Thus decreed in their judgment and news

5. The ignorant of schools thought Sufism
Was the sama' or wearing wool

6. Or uttering ecstasy in gatherings
Alas! This is not the path of the virtuous

7. O you who seek closeness to people
Worship without knowledge is like building without foundation

8. Praise be to the Lord of the wise saints
Free from the thinness of carnal desires

9. He whose guide is not the Sharia
Is prisoner to Iblis and nature

10. And how ugly are his delusions
Which he thinks are lights but are darknesses

11. O ignorant of knowledge how much you blaspheme
Sama' is not the truth, leaving truth is

12. If you seek the sought, be granted success
So take the path of the righteous and devout

13. O you who claim gifts from your Lord
Why trouble your heart with acquisitions?

14. You say "I am the sought" yet you are the seeker
The way is but states in the Real

15. Striving is His sunna in the way
While reliance is the state of the Real

16. And how much subtlety beyond subtlety
Realized by the excellent knowers

17. Principles of verification, O steadfast one
Are avoiding altogether sins

18. Then following the Messenger always
From here the sciences of secrets bear fruit
