1. Lamenting what is past,
And thinking of what's to come,

2. Have made our time vanish.
Praise be to God, Lord of empty hearts,

3. Turned only to their worshipped Eternal.
This is true kingship,

4. And balm for the wounded heart.
With it one is ever serene,

5. Indeed this is a second paradise,
Swiftly gained by pure hearts.

6. All are present when You are present,
A sanctuary, if You are its sanctuary and light.

7. No darkness remains with sun and light.
I mean by this the brilliant sun of certainty,

8. When it rises in its high celestial spheres.
Whose heart yearns,

9. And holds passion and longing,
This is the fruit and taste,

10. Of trees brought near for their keepers,
Displaying their timely fruits.

11. What night of destiny so extolled?
Or Paradise of Eden, however adorned,

12. Compared to the clarity of the certain,
When veils of separation dropped from them,

13. And visions and hopes were fulfilled?
O drunk with sins,

14. O chained by faults,
Purify your hearts for their Lord.

15. Would that hearts awake
Knew the close are not as the distant.
