1. God saw me one day
Weeping on earth from distress

2. So He had mercy, and Allah is most merciful
Upon the distressed and afflicted
ูข. ููุฑูููู ููุงููููู ุฐู ุญููุงูู
ุนููู ุฐููู ุงูุถูุฑูู ููุงูุนููุงุก
3. And He said, โDust is not a land
For poetry, so return to the sky"
ูฃ. ูููุงูู ูููุณู ุงูุชูุฑุงุจู ุฏุงุฑุงู
ูููุดูุนุฑู ููุงูุฑุฌูุน ุฅููู ุงูุณูู

4. And He erected over the firmament my home
And extended my dominion across space
ูค. ููุดุงุฏู ููููู ุงูุณูู
ุงูู ุจููุชู
ููู
ูุฏูู ู
ูููู ุนููู ุงูููุถุงุก
5. So the meteors circled around my throne
And the light moved in my obedience
ูฅ. ููุงููุชููููุชู ุงูุดููุจู ุญูููู ุนูุฑุดู
ููุณุงุฑู ูู ุทุงุนูุชู ุงูุถููุงุก
6. And I became such that no morning unfolds
Except by my command, nor evening
ูฆ. ููุตูุฑุชู ูุง ูููุทููู ุตูุจุงุญู
ุฅูููุง ุจูุฃูู
ุฑู ูููุง ู
ูุณุงุก
7. No wind drives the clouds
Unless above it is my banner
ูง. ูููุง ุชูุณููู ุงูุบูููู
ู ุฑูุญู
ุฅูููุง ูููู ููููููุง ูููุงุก
8. So the command among the stars is my command
Mine is the judgment over them and mine the decree

9. But I have not ceased being sad
Depressed in spirit on high

10. So God wondered how I could be miserable
In the world of revelation and joy

ูู ุนุงููู
ู ุงูููุญูู ููุงูุณููุงุก
11. And He said, โHe is still Adamic
Yearning for vineyards and tattoos
ูกูก. ูููุงูู ู
ุงุฒุงูู ุขุฏูู
ูููุงู
ููุตุจู ุฅููู ุงูุบูุฏู ููุงูุทููุงุก
12. And He touched my soul and drew from it
My longing for wine and women
ูกูข. ููู
ูุณูู ุฑูุญู ููุงูุณุชูููู ู
ูููุง
ุดูููู ุฅููู ุงูุฎูู
ุฑู ููุงูููุณุงุก
13. And He thought my affliction had ended
But He only increased my affliction
ูกูฃ. ููุธูููู ุฃูููู ุงููุชููู ุจููุงุฆู
ููููู
ููุฒูุฏูู ุณููู ุจููุงุก
14. And my weeping grew louder
When before it was in secret
ูกูค. ููุงูุดุชูุฏูู ูููุญู ููุตุงุฑู ุฌููุฑุงู
ูููุงูู ู
ูู ููุจูู ูู ุงูุฎููุงุก
15. And my tears became rivers of fire
When before they were rivers of water
ูกูฅ. ููุตุงุฑู ุฏูู
ุนู ุณููููู ูุงุฑู
ูููุงูู ููุจูุงู ุณููููู ู
ุงุก
16. O troubled poet
Your stubborn disease has confused me
ูกูฆ. ูุง ุฃูููููุง ุงูุดุงุนูุฑู ุงูู
ูุนูููู
ุญููููุฑููู ุฏุงุคููู ุงูุนููุงุก
17. Do you wish to be a bird?
I said, โNo, and no to singing"
ูกูง. ููู ุชูุดุชููู ุฃูู ุชููููู ุทููุฑุงู
ูููููุชู ููููุง ูููุง ุบููุงุก
18. Do you wish to be a star?
I answered, โNo, and no to brilliance"

ุฃูุฌูุจุชู ููููุง ูููุง ุจููุงุก
19. Do you seek money, I said, โNo,
Accumulation was never my goal
ูกูฉ. ููู ุชูุจุชูุบู ุงูู
ุงูู ูููุชู ููููุง

ูุทููุจู ุงูุซูุฑุงุก
20. Neither palaces, nor gardens
Neither armies, nor maidservants
ูขู . ูููุง ููุตูุฑุงู ูููุง ุฑููุงุถุงู
ูููุง ุฌูููุฏุงู ูููุง ุฅูู
ุงุก
21. And there is no sickness in me, my Lord
Nor need in me for medicine
ูขูก. ูููููุณู ู
ุง ุจู ูุง ุฑูุจูู ุฏุงุกู
ูููุง ุงูุญุชููุงุฌู ุฅููู ุฏููุงุก
22. Nor yearning for pubs
Nor craving for deer
ูขูข. ูููุง ุญููููู ุฅููู ุงููููุงูู
ูู ูุง ุงูุดุชููุงูู ุฅููู ุงูุธูุจุงุก
23. I do not want what is for others
Be it wisdom or folly
ูขูฃ. ูููุง ุฃูุฑูุฏู ุงูููุฐู ููุบููุฑู
ุฐุง ุญููู
ูุฉู ูุงูู ุฃูู
ู
ูุถุงุก
24. But a wish for myself
Fear and shyness hide itโ
ูขูค. ููููููู ุฃูู
ูููููุฉู ุจููููุณู
ููุณุชูุฑููุง ุงูุฎูููู ููุงูุญููุงุก
25. So He said, โO strange poet
Tell me then, what is it you desire?โ
ูขูฅ. ูููุงูู ูุง ุดุงุนูุฑุงู ุนูุฌูุจุงู
ููู ูู ุฅูุฐูู ู
ุง ุงูููุฐู ุชูุดุงุก
26. I said, โO Lord, a summer rain
In the land of Lebanon or winter
ูขูฆ. ูููููุชู ูุง ุฑูุจูู ููุตูู ุตูููู
ูู ุฃูุฑุถู ููุจูุงูู ุฃูู ุดูุชุงุก
27. For I am a stranger here
And in estrangement there is no bliss"

ูููููุณู ูู ุบูุฑุจูุฉู ูููุงุก
28. God laughed at my words
And said, โThis is nonsense
ูขูจ. ููุงูุณุชูุถุญููู ุงููููู ู
ูู ูููุงู
ู
ูููุงูู ููุฐุง ูููู ุงูุบูุจุงุก
29. Lebanon is a land like any land
And its people are equal to all people
ูขูฉ. ููุจูุงูู ุฃูุฑุถู ููููููู ุฃูุฑุถู
ูููุงุณููู ููุงูููุฑู ุณููุงุก
30. Both my misery and my blessing are in it
As are the naked and the devout
ูฃู . ูููููู ุจูุคุณู ูููููู ููุนู
ู
ููุฃูุฑุฏููุงุกู ููุฃูุชูููุงุก
31. So what is it you long for in it?โ
I said, โThat which gladdened me and saddened me
ูฃูก. ููุฃูููู ุดููุกู ุชูุดุชุงูู ูููู
ูููููุชู ู
ุง ุณูุฑูููู ููุณุงุก
32. My soul yearns for the paths
For the boughs, for the twittering
ูฃูข. ุชูุญูููู ูููุณู ุฅููู ุงูุณููุงูู
ุฅููู ุงูุฃููุงุญู ุฅููู ุงูุดูุฐุงุก
33. For the slopes growing bare, then clothed
For the little birds and their songs
ูฃูฃ. ุฅููู ุงูุฑููุงุจู ุชูุนุฑู ููุชููุณู
ุฅููู ุงูุนูุตุงููุฑู ููุงูุบููุงุก
34. For the grapevines, the bucket, and the water
For the light and the airโ
ูฃูค. ุฅููู ุงูุนููุงููุฏู ููุงูุฏููุงูู
ููุงูู
ุงุกู ููุงูููุฑู ููุงููููุงุก
35. So God peered down from His sublimity
Witnessing Lebanon in the evening
ูฃูฅ. ููุฃูุดุฑููู ุงููููู ู
ูู ุนููุงูู
ููุดููุฏู ููุจูุงูู ูู ุงูู
ูุณุงุก
36. And He said, โYou are not mad
Rather, you are faithful
ูฃูฆ. ูููุงูู ู
ุง ุฃููุชู ุฐู ุฌููููู
ููุฅููููู
ุง ุฃููุชู ุฐู ูููุงุก
37. For Lebanon is not a hillock
Nor a land, but sky"

ูููุง ุจููุงุฏุงู ููููู ุณูู
ุงุก
