1. Man claimed that he alone is lord
How much this claim of godhood lies!

2. The sea spews out salt bitter brine
Yet gives forth pearls that dazzle eyes

3. The pearl itself does not pretend
It is the sea’s wondrous guise

4. Nor does all things to death portend
Except the One who never dies

5. If you yourself had eternity
What then is this you idolize?

6. When you become another entity
Is not that the death you so despise?

7. Beneath the soil your feet tread on
Are worlds you cannot realize

8. You are a fragment of all that is
As numerous as its grains of sand

9. As the rose whose fragrance you treasure
As the gnat whose sting you despise

10. No separation of death can measure
For life itself is made of goodbyes
