1. I gave a rose to the one I love
After I had placed her in my heart
١. أَعطَيتُ مَن أَعشَقُها وردَةً
مِن بَعدِ أَن أَودَعتُها قَلبي
2. She began to tear its petals
With fingers like gentle lambs
٢. فَجَعَلَت تَنثُرُ أَوراقَها
بِأَنمُلٍ كَالغَنَمِ الرَطبِ
3. Do not ask the lover about his heart
It is lost between laughter and play
٣. لا تَسأَلوا العاشِقَ عَن قَلبِهِ
قَد ضاعَ بَينَ الضِحك وَاللَعِبِ
4. I did not pluck the rose from its branch
If it were not like a glowing cheek
٤. لَم أَقطِفِ الوَردَةَ مِن غُصنِها
لَو لَم تَكُن كَالخَدِّ في الإِتِّقاد
5. And Hind would not have torn its petals
If it were not confused with the heart
٥. وَلَم تُمَزِّق هِندُ أَوراقَها
لَولا اِشتِباهٌ بَينَها وَالفُؤاد
