1. If Adam had seen his son, hatred
Would have vanished from his heart for Eve

2. He would have made the earth a paradise, with beauty
And splendor and lushness beyond the Garden's

3. I don't think the bliss there
Equals the joy and radiance of earth

4. Everything in existence is a slave to man
Yet he is slave to passions and desires

5. Every creature perplexed with being
Is at times sweet and bitter and miserable

6. At times halfway divine
At others lower than a dumb beast

7. Strange, that clay and water obeyed Him
Though He was naught but clay and water

8. He prevailed in the universe as none other
The Creator of all, Maker of everything

9. He swims in the sea, walks on dry land
And flies through the air

10. He took the atmosphere for a playground
Then raced through space faster than wind

11. Above the clouds he chases them but
He is brother to the arrogant steeds

12. Among the birds you'd think him a heron
But for the heron's impossibility

13. When they saw him they were too proud
To see their hunter in the sky

14. Terror gripped them as if disaster
Had come, fear doubling the calamity

15. They conferred seeking escape, fleeing
Where, where to flee the inevitable?

16. Woe to these birds blaming the dead
And hoping the living would be spared

17. Land or keep soaring, walk on
For all paths lead to the burial ground

18. Among the stars he steals hearing
And fears no stoning from the heavens

19. A sight that startled the shining ones
And left them confused in the blue dome

20. Shying like gazelles who see
Hunters in the desert suddenly

21. Asking, “Is he a messenger of peace
From earth's sons, or a bringer of doom?”

22. Dazed to see folk like themselves
Strolling nonchalantly in space

23. You'd see the Pleiades complain to Orion
And Orion lament to the Pleiades:

24. "O meteors, spare us, we only
Feel loyalty, no awe or dread."

25. "We disliked earth when told
Heaven's the abode of bliss."

26. "Our longing for you drew us
Not rapture with ascension."

27. "Though we pray, ardour and fervor grow
Despite the censurer's frequent rebukes."

28. "We are your guests, O meteors,
And hospitality graces hosts."

29. "Honor that flier above the clouds,
Who praises you with excellent eulogy."

30. "Light his way when night falls
And the claws of darkness slash."

31. "God made you a torch of splendor
And the ideal man a torch of wisdom."

32. "Take him as a brother, a helper for you,
Every soul needs brotherhood."

33. "Do not boast of rare steeds
Of gorgeous bays or gray mares."

34. "The era of steeds and their riders has waned
In the age of steam and electricity."
