مَنwhoever يَتَجَرَّمfinds fault ليwith me المَناطِقَthe utterances ظالِماًunjustly
فَيَجرِthen let him run إِلىtoward شَأوٍa goal بَعيدٍdistant وَيَسبَحِand gallop
Whoever unjustly finds fault with my words—
Whoever aggresses against me in ignorance
let him run toward a distant goal and gallop—
Will come to great harm and regret it deeply

will be like the bustard: if it is struck, so too
Like a partridge when struck they will be
is he struck; and if it escapes the falcon, it voids its dung.
Wounded like them, and if they're spared by fate armed they will be
كَعَوفِlike ʿAwf اِبنِson of شَمّاسٍShammās يُرَشِّحُhe readies شِعرَهُhis verse
إِلَيَّagainst me أَسِدّيaim true ياO مَنِيَّDeath وَأَسجِحيand be gentle
Like ʿAwf son of Shammās, who readies his verse
Like Ibn Shammas’ dove oiling its feathers
against me. Aim true, O Death, and be gentle.
Lioness of Asad, yearn for me and roar for me
