لَعَمرُكَby your life وَالخُطوبُand calamities مُغَيِّراتٌbringing change
لَعَمرُكَ وَالخُطوبُ مُغَيِّراتٌ
وَفيand in طولِthe length of المُعاشَرَةِcompanionship التَقاليmutual aversion
وَفي طولِ المُعاشَرَةِ التَقالي
By your life, calamities bring change,
By the life of you, calamities change
and prolonged companionship brings mutual aversion.
And in the length of company, there are faults
لَقَدindeed بالَيتُI cared about مَظعَنَthe departure of أُمِّmother of أَوفىAwfa
لَقَد بالَيتُ مَظعَنَ أُمِّ أَوفى
وَلَكِنand yet أُمُّmother of أَوفىAwfa لاnot تُباليshe cares
وَلَكِن أُمُّ أَوفى لا تُبالي
I have indeed cared about Umm Awfa’s departure,
Indeed I have become weary of the most loyal mother
but Umm Awfa does not care.
But the most loyal mother does not care
