Be patient, Palestine: God has fashioned you
Patience, O Palestine, for God has made you
A pure land; He honored you with Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa.
A pure land, in the farthest Jerusalem, your home

Be patient under the oppression of enemies before whom have knelt
Patience over the oppression of enemies, for they were cursed
The horses of a people who have drawn away from the sweetness of closeness to you.
The horses of a people who turned away from your blessed intimacy

Your people are in discord that Zion set in motion;
They have populated you with division, Zion inaugurated it
They added anguish to the ranks of your misery.
Adding misery to the packs of your distress

Alas, how often our banner has been lowered into the mire!
Alas, how many times has our flag been lowered in the mud?
Damn us! How often we have retreated! How often we have failed you!
Woe to us, how we have regressed! How we have forsaken you!

Indeed, the free women’s throats have grown hoarse;
Verily the free women's throats have been slit
There is no one to answer their weeping voice.
There is no respondent to answer their crying voice

In our caravan, none remain who have the fortitude
None remain in our procession, who have the grit
To face the blaze of battle; everyone has abandoned you.
To withstand the flaming turmoil, all have deserted you

The Jews have grown tyrannical; buried hatred is their constant habit,
The deep-rooted hatred of vile Jews has overwhelmed
And the Arabs’ habit is to slumber so as to forget you.
And the habit of Arabs is to slumber and forget you

Hope has died that eyes might awaken for us.
Hope has died that alert consciences will awake for us
Humiliation has befallen us; who is it that will care for you?
Humiliation has pained us, who will come to your aid?

A spring of terror has spread through our abodes;
A terrifying spring has spread through our dwellings
Ever since it came, it has hidden you in an unseen margin.
In a margin beyond sight since your downfall came
لاdo not تَنْظُريْlook نَحْوَtoward مَنْthose who وَلّواthey turned لَكِto you الدُّبُراthe back

Do not look toward those who have turned their backs on you;
Do not look towards those who have turned their backs on you
Rather, look to whoever has watered you with the soul’s water.
Rather look to those who with the water of the soul have nourished you
