تَرىyou see الطِّفلthe child مِنهُمamong them يَبتَغيseeks المَجدَglory شيمَةًas an inborn trait
تَرى الطِّفل مِنهُم يَبتَغي المَجدَ شيمَةً
وَلَيسَand is not بِمُنسيهِcausing him to forget اِبتناءbuilding عَلىin الهَرَمold age
وَلَيسَ بِمُنسيهِ اِبتناء عَلى الهَرَم
You see the child among them seek glory as an inborn trait.
The child among them seeks glory as a trait
And even in old age, he does not forget to build it.
Yet cares not to build upon the ruins
وَإِنand even if هُوhe وَفَّىcompletes العُمرَthe lifespan تِسعينَninety حجَّةyears
وَإِن هُو وَفَّى العُمرَ تِسعينَ حجَّة
هَذيhe babbles بِقرىabout hospitality to الأَضيافِthe guests وَالجارِand the neighbor والذِّمَمand pledged obligations
هَذي بِقرى الأَضيافِ وَالجارِ والذِّمَم
And even if he lives out a full ninety years,
And if he lives to ninety pilgrimages
He babbles about hospitality to guests, the neighbor, and pledged obligations.
This is the abode of hospitality, neighbors, and covenants
