أَضرَمتyou kindled نارَكَyour fire فيon اليَفاعِthe high ground بِعَرفَجٍwith ‘arfaj brushwood
أَضرَمت نارَكَ في اليَفاعِ بِعَرفَجٍ
وَالكَلبُand the dog قَدalready مَلأَfilled الفَلاthe wilderness بِنُباحِwith barking
وَالكَلبُ قَد مَلأَ الفَلا بِنُباحِ
You kindled your fire on the high ground with ‘arfaj brushwood,
You kindled your fire on the highland of Arafaj
And the dog has filled the wilderness with barking.
And the dogs have filled the expanse with barking
فَلِذاكَso for that reason تَبغَضكhate you العِدىthe enemies وَيحقّهاand they are justified in it
فَلِذاكَ تَبغَضك العِدى وَيحقّها
إِذsince لَمdid not تَدَعleave لَهُمُfor them يَسيرَa little سَماحِgenerosity
إِذ لَم تَدَع لَهُمُ يَسيرَ سَماحِ
So your enemies hate you—and rightly so—
So for that the foe hates you, and rightly so
Since you have left them not even a little generosity.
Since you left them no bit of room for clemency
