رَأَيتكُ أَمسِ خَيرَ بَني مَعَد

رَأَيتكُ أَمسِ خَيرَ بَني مَعَد

وَأَنتَ اليَومَ خَيرٌ مِنكَ أَمسِ

وَأَنتَ اليَومَ خَيرٌ مِنكَ أَمسِ

I saw you yesterday, the best of the sons of Maʿadd.

I saw you yesterday, O best of Ma'add's sons

And today you are better than you were yesterday.

And you today are better than you were yesterday

وَأَنتَ غَداً تَزيدُ الضّعفَ خَيراً

وَأَنتَ غَداً تَزيدُ الضّعفَ خَيراً

كَذاكَ تَكونُ سادَةُ عَبدِ شَمسِ

كَذاكَ تَكونُ سادَةُ عَبدِ شَمسِ

And tomorrow you will be twice as good.

And tomorrow you will grow even better still

Such are the lords of ʿAbd Shams.

Thus it is with the nobility of Shams's servants
