فَهَلso, do you…? لَكَfor you فيin حاجَتيmy request حاجَةٌan interest
وَأَنتَand you لَهاwith regard to it تارِكٌabandoning طارِحُcasting aside
Have you, then, any interest in my request,
Do you care for my need while ignoring it,
while you abandon it and cast it aside?
And you are the one abandoning and discarding it?
أَمِتهاput it to death لَكَfor you الخَيرُgood fortune أَمor أَحيِهاbring it to life
كَماas يَفعَلُdoes الرَّجلُthe man الصالِحُrighteous
Put it to death—may good be yours—or bring it to life,
Is it better for you to let it die or revive it,
as a righteous man would do.
As a righteous man would do?
إِذاwhenever قُلتI said قَدalready أَقبَلَتit came forward أَدبَرَتit turned away
كَمَنlike one who لَيسَis not غادٍgoing forth in the morning وَلاand not رائِحُgoing forth in the evening
Whenever I say, “It has come forward,” it turns away,
If I say it approaches, yet it retreats,
like one who goes forth neither in the morning nor in the evening.
Like one neither coming nor going.
