تَغنَّيْ أَنتِ في ذِمَمي وَعَهدي

تَغنَّيْ أَنتِ في ذِمَمي وَعَهدي

وَذِمَّةِ وَالدي أَلّا تُضاري

وَذِمَّةِ وَالدي أَلّا تُضاري

Sing—you are under my protection and my pledge,

and my father's pledge, that you shall not be harmed.

وَبَيتُكِ فاصلِحيهِ وَلا تَخافي

وَبَيتُكِ فاصلِحيهِ وَلا تَخافي

عَلى صُفرٍ مُزَغّبَةٍ صغارِ

عَلى صُفرٍ مُزَغّبَةٍ صغارِ

And put your nest in order, and do not fear

for the little yellow, downy chicks.

فَإِنَّكِ كُلَّما غَنَّيتِ صَوتاً

فَإِنَّكِ كُلَّما غَنَّيتِ صَوتاً

ذَكَرتُ أَحِبَّتي وذَكَرتُ داري

ذَكَرتُ أَحِبَّتي وذَكَرتُ داري

For whenever you sing a song,

I remember my loved ones and remember my home.

فَإِمّا يَقتُلوك طَلَبت ثَأراً

فَإِمّا يَقتُلوك طَلَبت ثَأراً

لَهُ نَبَأٌ لِأَنَّك في جواري

لَهُ نَبَأٌ لِأَنَّك في جواري

So if they kill you, I shall seek vengeance

that will be talked of, for you are under my protection.
