لعَمركَ ما الديباجَ خَرَّقتَ وَحدَهُ

لعَمركَ ما الديباجَ خَرَّقتَ وَحدَهُ

وَلَكِنَّما خَرَّقتَ جِلدَ المُهَلَّبِ

وَلَكِنَّما خَرَّقتَ جِلدَ المُهَلَّبِ

By your life, it was not the brocade alone that you tore;

By your life, you have not torn the silk alone,

rather, you tore al-Muhallab’s skin.

But rather, you have torn the skin of the flayed one.
