O our beloved ones, parting from you is against my will.
Although we parted, my dear friends
And oh, how enduring my longing for you and my passion!
My longing for you still burns within
أطعتI obeyed الهوىlove بالكرهwith reluctance منيon my part لاnot الرضاwilling consent
أطعت الهوى بالكره مني لا الرضا
ولوand had خيرونيthey given me a choice كنتI would have been غيرnot مطيعobedient
ولو خيروني كنت غير مطيع
I obeyed love against my will, not willingly.
I followed passion though I disapproved
And had they given me a choice, I would not have obeyed.
Had I a choice, I would have refused
حفظتI preserved لكمfor you ماwhat تعهدونyou know منof الهوىlove
حفظت لكم ما تعهدون من الهوى
ولستand I am not لسرof a secret بينناbetween us بمضيعa betrayer
ولست لسر بيننا بمضيع
I have preserved for you the love you have known.
I kept the love you pledged faithfully
Nor am I one to betray a secret between us.
No secrets between us have I abused
وانand if كتبdecrees اللَهGod السلامةsafety اننيindeed I
وان كتب اللَه السلامة انني
اليكمto you وإنand even if طالis prolonged الزمانtime رجوعيmy return
اليكم وإن طال الزمان رجوعي
And if God decrees safety, I shall indeed
If God wills that I return one day
Return to you, however long the time may be.
I shall come back to you, no matter how long I must wait
