على من لا أسميه السلام
حبيبٌa beloved فيهover him قدindeed حارَhas been bewildered الأنامhumankind
حبيبٌ فيه قد حارَ الأنام
Peace be upon the one I do not name.
Peace upon him whom I do not name,
A beloved who has bewildered humankind.
A beloved who has perplexed people,
مليحٌfair كلall ماthat فيهin him مليحfair
مليحٌ كل ما فيه مليح
مليحٌfair دونَهinferior to him البدرُthe full moon التمامperfect
مليحٌ دونَه البدرُ التمام
Fair—everything about him is fair.
Graceful is everything about him,
Fair—the full moon in its perfection falls short of him.
The full moon is less graceful than him.
وليand I have زمنٌa span of time أكاتمُهI conceal from him هواهlove for him
ولي زمنٌ أكاتمُه هواه
وقلبيand my heart فيهfor him صبٌّlovesick مستهامmadly enamored
وقلبي فيه صبٌّ مستهام
And for some time I have concealed from him my love for him.
And I have a time when I conceal my love for him,
And my heart is lovesick for him, madly enamored.
With my heart madly in love with him.
