To God I complain of the tyranny of an unyielding age.

I fell captive into its hands, and it shunned me.

And my distance from sorrows—or they are my fortitude [wording unclear].

And though I am close to memories of their bygone days.

Whenever remembering them wounds the yearning heart,

My secret and my avowal become alike before those seated.

So, O heart, be patient with the nights; and if you wish,

Then melt in grief between throbbing and flames.

Perhaps Time will pity me and reunite us,

And fulfill the promise to me after delay and sorrows.
