أَمُرتَحِلٌdeparting? صَحبيmy companions المَشارِقَthe eastern lands غُدوَةat dawn
وَأُترَكُand I am left فيin بَيتٍa house بِفَردَةَat Fardah مُنجِدِon high ground
Are my companions departing for the eastern lands at dawn,
A traveler, my companions left at dawn
while I am left in a highland house at Fardah?
And I am left in a house, alone, awake
سَقىmay He water اللَهُGod ماwhat بَينَbetween القَفيلِal-Qafil فَطابَةٍand Tabah
فَماand what دونَbelow أَرمامٍArmam فَماand what فَوقَabove مُنشِدِMunshid
May God water the land between al-Qafil and Tabah,
May God water what is between Al-Qafael and Fatabah
and the land below Armam and above Munshid.
And what is below Armaam and above Munshid
هُنالكَthere لَوif أَنّيthat I مَرِضتُI fell ill لَعادَنيwould have visited me
عَوائِدُwomen visitors مَنwhoever لَمnot يُشفَbe healed مِنهُنَّfrom them (feminine) مُجهدِsorely stricken
There, had I fallen ill, I would have been visited
There, if I were to fall ill, would tend to me
by women visitors—whoever finds no healing from them is sorely stricken.
The hands of those who could not be wearied healing me
فَلَيتَso, if only اللَواتيthose women who عُدنَنيthey visited me لَمnot يُعُدنَنيthey visit me
وَلَيتَand if only اللَواتيthose women who غِبنَthey were absent عَنّيfrom me عوديmy visitors
So I wish the women who visited me had not visited me,
If only those who returned had not returned
and I wish the women absent from me were my visitors.
And those who were absent from me had returned
