Was it for the sake of soft, tender bodies
For the sake of soft, tender bodies
that you came to a port where those charms reside?
There came to my lips those subtle graces

They went down as the sea's waves roared,
They came down while the sea roared its waves
and it held dangers for those endowed with beauty.

So, out of modesty, it feared to dishonor beauties
So modesty feared to dishonor the flirtatious ones
who have pages in the volumes of enchantment.
For them the books of coquetry are pages

who has in her youth what an adversary fears?
From her youth she has what fears hostility

When she appears at night, its darkness shines,
If she went out at night, its darkness shone

A creation of light coveted by the gambler

If he rebels and rebels against us, then we

For our faith in beauty, are lions that bite

Fair maidens who make hearts fall prostrate,
Hearts are humbled worshipers of them
even if one day they are said to be deceivers.
And if it is said one day that they are deceivers

We have come to confide our heart's pains to the sea;
We came to spill into the sea the pains of our hearts
so, O sea, do you hear the ardent longing?
So are you, oh sea of youth, listening?
