    My neighbor—stinginess is among her traits—

    Stole my heart and flew away, never to return.

    Sweet and dark-complexioned—how charming she is

    When she meets me with a fire of rejection.

    O fair one, where is the rendezvous—

    On a dark evening, or in the morning?

    إنه يا روح أكواب وراح

    And intimate whispering works wonders in us;

    It is indeed, O soul, goblets and wine.

    فراقبي اللَه يا بنت الفراعين

    O daughter of Pharaoh, injustice truly troubles me;

    So be mindful of God, O daughter of the Pharaohs.

    And even if love decreed that on our morrow we should breathe in

    The blossoms of your cheeks with a glance, amid the gardens.

    I believed in beauty; beauty has indeed inspired me

    With what no decree of fate can fashion in the universe.

    O daughter of Pharaoh, O dark-complexioned one, fashioning

    In the heart what the decrees of fate could not.

    Its nights wronged it, and it was handed over

    To its tragedies by a beauty utterly bewitching.

    I never walked without a vision of you following me,

    As though I were fleeing a jailer's captivity.

    والحسن يخلق كونا غير موجود

    Youth has returned because I have become enamored of you;

    And beauty creates a universe that does not exist.

    Beauty has returned; so be in rapture, O heart,

    And inspire, if you wish, the delicate graces of songs.

    What harm is there for us, while this beauty keeps us company

    With green eyes or with black eyes?

    What harm is there for us if rapture stirs us

    Toward the finest wine from those clusters of grapes?

    O Creator of the universe from beauty and passion,

    Rescue, through Your kindness, the captives of shy, graceful maidens.
