إن كان ذنبي في الهوى

أني ندمتُ على جفاك

Is that I regretted your coldness,
Is that I regretted your abandonment
فاللَهthen God يرحمhas mercy on عاشقاًa lover
فاللَه يرحم عاشقاً
باعsold الأحبّةthe loved ones واشتراكand bought you
باع الأحبّة واشتراك
Then may God have mercy on a lover
Then may Allah have mercy on a lover
Who sold his loved ones and bought you.
Who sold his loved ones and bought you
ولسوفand surely will تعرفyou know بعدafter ماthat (clause linker)
ولسوف تعرف بعد ما
تسعىstrive اللياليthe nights فيtoward نواكyour separation
تسعى الليالي في نواك
And you will surely know, after
And you will know after
The nights have striven to bring about your separation,
The nights pass through your bed
أنthat ليسis not مثلىlike me صادقٌsincere
أن ليس مثلى صادقٌ
وافٍfaithful ولوand even if بلغhe reached السماكthe star al-Simak
وافٍ ولو بلغ السماك
That none is as sincere as I,
That there is no one as sincere as me
Or as faithful—even were he to reach the star al-Simak.
