I still revel in bliss and well-being,

I still enjoy prosperity and well-being

From your generous bounty or your sound judgment.

From your abundant Nile or from your good judgment

وأسهر الليل في علمٍ وفي أدب

وأسهر الليل في علمٍ وفي أدب

أبغى رضاءك عن قصدي وعن سنني

أبغى رضاءك عن قصدي وعن سنني

And I stay awake through the night in learning and literature,

And I stay up nights acquiring knowledge and literature

Seeking your approval of my purpose and my ways.

Seeking your approval of my aims and traditions

وأستقل لأجل الفضل ما سمحت

وأستقل لأجل الفضل ما سمحت

به الليالي لهل الفضل من محن

به الليالي لهل الفضل من محن

And for excellence’s sake, I deem slight whatever

And I endure for virtue’s sake what nights allow

trials the nights have bestowed on people of merit,

Of trials for the virtuous from misfortunes

حتى بلغت بجدى بعض ما طمحت

حتى بلغت بجدى بعض ما طمحت

إليه نفسي كما يرجوه لي وطني

إليه نفسي كما يرجوه لي وطني

Until, through my diligence, I attained some of what

Until I’ve attained by my diligence some of what

my soul aspired to, as my homeland hopes for me.

My soul desired, as my homeland wished for me

فاليوم أهديك ما أبدعت من أثرٍ

فاليوم أهديك ما أبدعت من أثرٍ

أبقى على الزمن الباقي من الزمن

أبقى على الزمن الباقي من الزمن

So today I dedicate to you the work I have created—

So today I present to you what masterpiece I’ve created

More enduring, through the time that remains, than time itself.

To remain through timeless time from eras past
