له مالٌ وليس له رشادٌ

له مالٌ وليس له رشادٌ

متى أغنى الثراء عن الرشادِ

متى أغنى الثراء عن الرشادِ

He has money, but no sound judgment.

He has wealth but lacks wisdom,

When has wealth ever taken the place of sound judgment?

When did wealth make up for lack of wisdom?

فإن يك جيبهُ أضحى غنيّا

فإن يك جيبهُ أضحى غنيّا

فما في رأسه غير الكسادِ

فما في رأسه غير الكسادِ

For if his pocket has grown rich,

If his pocket is full he becomes rich,

then his head holds nothing but stagnation.

But his mind has nothing except loss.
