To the judge and his eyes, greetings,

from the heart tormented by eyes.

Are you a judge? Do not pass judgment, for I

have sentenced my heart to madness.

Glances were fashioned from the nectar of wine,

and so became the sorrowful heart's joy.

The soul's dear friend—you would think him a ray of light

that burst forth in the sanctuary of the Trustworthy Spirit.

Are you a judge, O desire of hearts

that beauty's charms set ablaze with allure?

Your eyes grew tyrannous and beguiled a heart

    captive to cheeks and eyelids.

Years have stretched on, and my soul's passion

circles around you throughout those years.

When the metro moves on, face to face,

and you are aboard it, my friend or my close companion,

then its blaze draws inspiration from your eyes,

to reach the realm of manifest enchantment.

To the judge of judges I pour out my longing,

while passion's fire grips my aorta.

And if he uses force against me, there is no blame:

my book of love lies at my right hand.
