Calamities of many kinds wear at the heart,
Afflictions assail and erode the rock,
As dust-bearing winds wear at rock.
The raging winds wear down the stone.

And my heart has not grown hard, but my resolve
Though my heart has turned hard, still my spirit
Has risen high and paid no heed to time's arrogance.
Rises above the tyranny of fate.

So do not think that time, though it grows tyrannical,
Think not that time, however harsh,
Will one day force me to take a rugged course.
Will one day force me on a ship of ruin.

A proud soul has forbidden me to endure oppression;
My soul disdains injustice and wrongdoing;
It matches this age in tyrannical harshness.
It spurns the cruelty of this unjust age.

So may the family of Mubarak never praise my striving,
I will not praise the rulers of Tripoli
If I do not make Egypt's enemies spend the night on embers.
Unless I see Egypt's foes burning in flames.

By the life of the dark nights, which bear witness
By these long nights of sorrow I swear,
To my valor, which swept away the terror they brought.
And the terrors that struck us with panic and fear.

If a usurper will not willingly depart from the Nile—
If the usurpers do not willingly leave the Nile,
We deem his stay among us more harmful than unbelief—
Their presence will prove more harmful than blasphemy.

I will unleash the people's wrath and vengeance
For the outrages his right hand has wrought in Egypt.
For the dishonor Tripoli has brought Egypt.

Then a daring warrior will rage, and a deadly fighter scowl,
The enraged will frown and scowl,
And a bereaved avenger will resort to reckless evil.
The grieved will cry out against such folly.

The men of the Nile will become raging lions
Strutting in a mantle of slaughter and roaring.
Pouncing with a cold fury of battle and roar.

The people were mistaken if they thought
The raging seas' turn toward the ebb.
The raging seas would flood the shores.

For lions may snort even while lying at rest,
The lions growl as they lie waiting,
Just as covered water snorts within the pot.
Like water boiling in a covered pot.

Did they not know that when stars fall
Become missiles that no rebuke can restrain?
They become missiles that cannot be deterred?

God has refused to let us perish while a remnant remains among us
God refused to let us vanish entirely;
That finds our shackling in captivity unbearable.
He cares too much for our remaining few.

How, then, can a strengthened people be subjected to abasement,
How can catastrophe befall a people so blessed,
Who, if they rise, have the same strength as the people of the West?
As blessed as any people of the West?

Stop, sons of Temehus, cease plundering souls
That strive to live among the radiant stars.
Who still strive to live under bright stars.
